Position Summary
The School of Math, Science & Engineering (SMSE) at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) seeks applicants for the position of Research Scientist/ Post-Doctoral Appointee in Solid-State NMR Superconducting Materials. UIW is an institution that values both teaching and research. This is a non tenure-track, full-time, grant-funded, 2-year with the possibility of a third-year research position in the Physics Department. The Research Scientist collects variable temperature, variable-field, NMR relaxation rate data on superconducting, solid-state samples. The opportunity to publish results, along with the collaboration of the PI, and present research at conferences will be available.
This position provides an opportunity to teach under the supervision of experienced faculty, if desired. The courses include introductory undergraduate-level physics, upper-division research courses, and various independent study courses.
This position is grant funded and subject to the award and continuation of contract. Position will be filled upon renewal of NOA.
This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Required Education
Required Work Experience
-Successful experience in a physics research laboratory;
-Experience collecting variable-temperature, variable-field solid-state NMR relaxation time data, building and tuning NMR tank circuits, handling vacuum systems at and below 10-4 Torr., and handling variable temperature (room temperature down to 1.5 K) helium gas systems;
-Work experience in the specified areas of expertise may be substituted for PhD
Preferred Qualifications
-PhD in Physics or closely related field;
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work in a collaborative environment

Work hours will vary depending on data collection time duration
Physical Demands
-Ability to stand for 3-hour increments;
-Ability to lift at least 50 lbs;
-Ability to work independently
