Position Overview
The Residence Life Coordinator for Leadership Engagement is responsible for advising, leadership development, and assessment within the University Student Housing Student Leadership Area. The Residence Life Coordinator for Leadership Engagement has primary responsibilities in leadership area advising & training, supervision and advising, administration, on-call crisis response, and summer operations. The Residence Life Coordinator is a member of the Residence Life Professional Staff and is supervised by an Assistant Director for Residence Life.

Leadership Area Advising and Training

  • Provide training and development to students within departmental leadership organizations
    Assist with the training and development of complex council advisors

  • Coordinate fall and spring student leadership series for on-campus residents

  • Develop and maintain relationships with campus and community partners
    Assist with the development and review of Student Leadership Area assessment plan


Supervision and Advising

  • Recruit, train, advise, develop & evaluate Residence Halls Association committees

  • Participate in the recruitment, selection training and development of professional and paraprofessional staff

  • Provide indirect supervision and advising to departmental staff, complex councils, student organizations and specialty staff


Administration

  • Manage implementation of the related area programs including guidance of student leaders, oversight of proposals, evaluations, and funding

  • Administer budget responsibilities for assigned area

  • Monitor, maintain, and/or approve payroll as appropriate

  • Manage student of concern and incident reporting via Maxient system
    Support, provide guidance for, and implement the Disney Customer Service model (SERVE TECH & SERVE USH)

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding student leadership initiatives

  • Support departmental initiatives within Residence Life including but not limited to Academic Initiatives, Social Justice Education, Student Intervention, Recruitment &Training and Summer Conferences

  • Serve on departmental committee(s) as assigned

  • Utilize departmental databases and online systems for the management of University Student Housing and Residence Life operations


On-Call/Crisis Response

  • During assigned on-call shifts, be accessible by the department provided cell phone 24-hours per day (may include holiday breaks)

  • Be available on a call-to-duty status whenever residence halls are in operation and assist Residence Life staff with residence hall and campus emergencies

  • Work with stakeholders, including the Texas Tech Police Department, Crisis Hotline, and Student Counseling Center, to respond to student concerns or incidents within the residence halls

  • Ensure accurate reporting and provide follow-up as necessary with student and parent concerns


Summer Operations

  • Serve as a Residence Life Coordinator for Summer Camp/Conference Operations and/or Summer School Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding summer needs

  • Maintain up-to-date information in applicable Summer Databases to ensure accuracy for planning, billing, etc.

  • Due to the on-call nature of this position, the following physical requirements are expected of a successful candidate. Reasonable accommodations may be made as necessary: Ability to drive and operate a university vehicle, ability to Push/Pull, Lift and/or carry 5-25 pounds; Work with office equipment regularly; Hearing; Speech; Vision (including depth and spatial perception); Work indoors away from natural light for six or more hours at a time; etc.

  • The Residence Life Coordinator is considered a security sensitive position. If offered the position, candidates will be required to complete a criminal background check, drug test, and submit official transcripts to verify education


Remuneration

The Residence Life Coordinator position is a 12-month appointment with an annual salary of $35,000 with an opportunity for merit-based increase. The state of Texas has no state income tax. Staff members accumulate both annual leave and sick leave in addition to University Holidays. The Residence Life Coordinator is considered professional University personnel and is expected to work during student vacation periods unless personal accrued leave is approved, or an official university holiday has been designated.

Additional benefits include participation in the Teacher's Retirement System of Texas, medical and dental insurance programs, optional insurance coverage (term life & dependent term life, accidental death & dismemberment, short-term and long-term disability, etc.) and participation in the state agency longevity program. Health coverage starts the first day of the month after your 60th day of employment.

An Employee Tuition Assistance Program is available to Residence Life Coordinators upon approval from their supervisor. Enrollment in a degree program must be earned to utilize this program. Professional Development Funds are also available. A fully furnished one-two bedroom apartment within the assigned residence hall complex is provided at no expense including utilities, small kitchen unit, internet access, and basic cable television. A meal plan is provided to Residence Life Coordinators while the dining halls are in service, reserved parking is available upon the individual purchase of a campus parking permit. University Student Housing has a Professional Staff Occupant Policy which allows one additional occupant to reside in the provided apartment pending a background check and approval process (the exception being dependent children). University Student Housing has a Professional Staff Pet Policy which would allow one pet of the following nature: one indoor cat or one indoor dog (no more than 40lbs) or one fish tank (up to 25 gallons). An application process and pet deposit are required prior to obtaining the pet.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree required in a related field plus two years related experience hall staff experience; OR a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or related fields.

  • Full-time residence hall management experience is strongly preferred.
