Position Summary
The Safety Generalist provides technical assistance in the administration of institutional policies, standards, and regulations relating to Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management. Responsibilities include assisting in the routine application and enforcement of safety rules, regulations, and standards relating to the particular field/s to which assigned.

Description of Job Duties
Assists in performing basic surveys and inspections related to environmental health, safety and risk management;
Assists with servicing and testing standard equipment and systems and conducting drills;
Assists in performing pick up, monitoring, packaging, transporting, segregating, and processing of hazardous materials;
Responds to emergency situations of a non-critical nature, and provides assistance as required in all emergency situations;
Informs management of potentially unsafe conditions;
Exercises independent judgment and decision-making authority over assigned areas of responsibility;
Performs clerical, administrative and secretarial duties including: reports, payroll, personnel document processing, maintaining personnel, credentialing, health & safety and training files, etc.;
Assists with keeping projects up to date with processing invoices and applying for appropriate permits;
Performs data entry supporting the tracking of training and other qualifying mandates to assure that educational and other records are accurately recorded, milestones are communicated and that refreshers, expiration, and re-certifications are known in advance to keep continuity and support compliance;
Assists in promoting participation in Health & Safety sponsored events to maximize awareness and impactful flavor and flare;
Works to make the Environmental Health & Safety events a positive experience for participants also soliciting feedback through survey and other objective tracking (Automated);
Composes, types, and distributes meeting notes, routine correspondence, and reports;
Assists in developing a wide range of training materials in different media to promote Environmental Health & Safety practices seeking to be impactful, relevant and exciting;
Assists in the development of written manuals and procedure with the goal that content match field service performance and at a minimum meet regulatory requirements ever reaching for best practice and continuity/standardization between locations;
Maintains communications on behalf of the Environmental Health & Safety Department throughout the organization by soliciting and responding to requests and concerns timely and with integrity;
Master software tools that promote collaboration;
Maintains database of adverse incidents, training activities and audits functions for the company through and with assistance;
Create reports on EHS performance data to keep stakeholders informed;
Assist in keeping track of formal authorizations and qualifications of employees;
Interface with other departments through open and complimentary sharing of data to promote accurate archival and retrieval of information;
Performs other duties as assigned.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
-Understanding of TCEQ/EPA/OSHA/NFPA agencies and regulations;
-Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
-Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA

Required Education
High school diploma or its equivalent

Required Work Experience
-One (1) year experience in Environmental Health and Safety or Hazardous Waste field (Higher education coursework may be substituted for experience)

Physical Demands
Work is performed in laboratory, research, clinical facilities, and field conditions in or adjacent to radiation, biological, and/or hazardous material work areas. Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous materials. Position requires considerable walking, standing, bending, and moving of heavy materials and equipment. May require working after hours to respond to emergency situations.
