Overview:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations is charged with the responsibility of assuring an effective, consistent and progressive approach to advancing the image and notoriety of Fresno State Athletics within the San Joaquin Valley, the state of California and the nation. This includes the direct supervision of marketing, media services, ticket operations and merchandising as well as key interactions with partners both on and off campus. This position is designed to provide cohesive management and coordination of these various activities and the conduit by which they are consistently brought together to achieve the greatest possible broad-based recognition, event attendance and revenue streams while positioning the department in supporting the values of the institution. Further, the position is designed to assure that such initiatives are routinely in sync and coordination with partners both within the Fresno State Athletics Corporation administration as well as the university community.

Compensation:

The salary is competitive and is negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position with an attractive benefits package which includes but is not limited to: a vacation accrual rate of 16 hours per month; 12+ paid holidays; excellent choice of medical, dental and vision insurance, long term disability coverage, life insurance; and retirement benefits.

Position Summary:

  • Conceptualize, deliver, and maintain comprehensive marketing and brand enhancement strategies. Then, construct and supervise cohesive multi-media campaigns that maximize exiting assets within the Fresno State Athletics Corporation's departments of marketing, media services, ticket operations, merchandising, video production and broadcast properties.
  • Concentrate efforts on maximizing revenue generation by overseeing and negotiating contracts and other opportunities to further capitalize on Fresno State's image and brand.
  • Serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and helps determine department priorities and strategic initiatives
  • Develop community relations plan, focusing on grass roots marketing and community engagement efforts to promote Fresno State's brand.
  • Advance and promote optimum results from the Fresno State Athletics ticket operation and merchandising, utilizing the available human and financial resources at hand and assure that the goals of that operation are effectively integrated into all marketing and communications programs.
  • Coordinate, oversee and advances all radio and television broadcast properties of the Fresno State Athletic Corporation. This positions serves as the functional contact for all Fresno State broadcast partners as well as the appropriate leadership at the Mountain West Conference (MWC) and NCAA.
  • Serve as Executive Producer of all Fresno State Athletics Corporation productions intended for broadcast, video board display, and commemorative DVDs.
  • Supervise the various components of the Department of External Relations to assure maximum advantage from both paid, (advertising) and earned (print/electronic news) media exposure as well as "message delivery" for the Fresno State Athletic Corporation and its coaches and student-athletes.
  • Develop, design, and supervise the implementation of all facets of the Fresno State athletics game-day experience with particular focus upon the creation and execution of total content for football events at Bulldog Stadium and men's and women's basketball events at the Save Mart Center.
  • Supervise all corporate sponsorship activity and serve as the functional contact with the Fresno State Athletic Corporation's multi-media rights holder.
  • Serve as the Fresno State Athletic Corporation functional liaison to the Director of University Communications and coordinate mutual agendas and applicable activities.
  • Serves as liaison to licensing and helps maximize licensing opportunities.
  • Construct, administer and steward marketing and promotions budget assuring responsible fiscal management of limited resources while maximizing results.
  • Coordinate collaborations with key entertainment partners (e.g. The Marching Band) to assure the optimum game-day experience for spectators.
  • Serve as Sport Supervisor for select sports.
  • Ongoing maintenance of budget and application of available resources to priorities established in collaboration with department colleagues.
  • Outreach to various on and off campus constituencies designed to leverage assets on behalf of the institution and advance the Fresno State Athletic Corporation agenda.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree with major in business, marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.
  • Minimum five years of experience in External Relations in a professional or collegiate athletics program.
  • Minimum five years of experience with progressive management and supervisory experience.
  • Breadth of experience gained form working with a NCAA Division I program environment or related industry.

Preferred Skills:

  • Master's Degree
  • Experience with negotiating and managing contracts.
