Stanford's Latino Entrepreneur Research Initiative (SLEI) seeks a new Associate Director to provide strategic thought leadership for the program, guide the research goals, and serve as a spokesperson for the research. SLEI conducts research on the landscape of Latino entrepreneurship in the United States. For over seven years, the SLEI research project has provide annual reports on the economic impact of entrepreneurship in the U.S. Latino population, and highlighted insights about the unique challenges facing U.S. Latino business owners.



The Associate Director for SLEI will work in close collaboration with the faculty primary investigator (PI), a SLEI Research Analyst, and an outside non-profit organization with which the research is collaboratively conducted. The Associate Director will develop the strategy for conducting the research to maximize impact in the business community.



This position will be on a hybrid work arrangement with 2-3 days of onsite presence required.



Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead strategic direction for future research with a goal of increasing insight about Latino entrepreneurship in the U.S. and understanding opportunities to level the playing field. Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new research.

  • Guide the creation of robust research instruments, source, collect, and conduct thorough and effective analyses of data collected, distill valid conclusions, and prepare research reports that clearly communicate the results to a wide range of audiences.

  • Lead communication of research results to multiple audiences and stakeholders

  • Lead engagement with governmental, non-profit, business, and academic leaders to develop a rich understanding of the issues facing U.S. Latino entrepreneurs and economic policy-makers to guide research direction.

  • Act as a primary spokesperson and key point-of-contact representing the research and its insights about the U.S. Latino business environment with business, academic, non-profit, and governmental organizations, and with the press.

  • Write and/or edit complex content for proposals, research grants, peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities.






To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience

  • Experience creating, conducing, analyzing and reporting results of social science research, ideally as the project leader guiding research direction.

  • Very strong analytic skills using tools such as R to analyze social science research data.

  • Experience managing a budget and developing financial plans.

  • Project management skills, ability to drive progress and prioritize across multiple work streams.

  • Ability to develop and manage program partnerships.

  • Excellent English oral, written, and analytical skills.




In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Existing knowledge about the issues facing Latino or other under-represented business owners in the U.S. extremely valuable in this role.

  • PhD or Masters degree in relevant social science preferred

  • Fluency in Spanish (written and verbal) highly desirable
