About the Position:

The Office of Disability Support Services strives to increase access and retention for students with permanent and temporary disabilities by ensuring equitable treatment in all aspects of campus life. The program acts as a catalyst and agent for compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations mandating equal opportunity and access for person with disabilities. Our office provides co-curricular and academically related services which empower students with disabilities to achieve academic and personal self-determination. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Student Services Specialist (Student Services Professional I-Range B). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Student Services Specialist supports students ADA access related needs for the office of Disability Support Services. We are looking for a professional who possesses excellent customer service, organization, and communications skills and enjoys interacting with students on a daily basis. Works within program Operations and Student Services and Accommodation Team. The Student Services Specialist provides support to students, department staff, and faculty for Disability Support Services (DSS). This position interacts primarily with students, faculty, and campus and program staff in a fast-paced office environment. Is responsible for coordinating program functions through established department guidelines policies, and procedures under ADA, 504 and 508 law in accordance with campus guidelines, policies and procedures. Oversee student orientation and navigation of Disability Support Services program and services. Assists prospective and current students with the DSS application process, inform students about voter registration, and will make on/off campus resource referrals. Interprets and communicates DSS guidelines, policies and procedures for students. Obtain and enters student data and information utilizing electronic department student management database. Will utilize campus learning management system PeopleSoft/CMS. Responsible for scheduling student appointments with counseling and other professional staff. Responsible for recruitment, hiring, training and supervision of program student staff. Distributes department mail, and will utilize standard office equipment such as computer, copier, fax machine, and scanner. May occasionally assists with departmental special events and projects. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field plus one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Equivalent amounts of job-related, graduate level education may be substituted for the required experience. Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management. Working knowledge of research techniques, interview techniques, and the principles of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports. Ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures and activities and the overall organization. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
