Technician I

Position Description:
Performs minor mechanical and/or analytical duties on various projects. Work is performed under general guidelines using established procedures and evaluated on results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions:
Full-time temporary (six months) seasonal fieldwork position with benefits to assist with a graduate-level research project examining the influence of predators and supplemental feed on northern bobwhite demographics. Lodging is provided.

Essential Functions include:
Problem-solve and work independently (potentially outside of cell service.
Work in a wide range of inclement conditions (both hot and cold).
Meso-mammal live trapping.
Trap, band, and place necklace style radio-transmitters and GPS backpack transmitters on northern bobwhites and scaled quail.
Proficiency in common vegetation sampling techniques.
Operate a state vehicle.
Radio telemetry.
Proficiency with a compass as well as GPSr navigation.
Proficiency with ATVs and UTVs.
Proficiency with 4x4 trucks.

Occasional Duties:
Deploy scent stations to monitor meso-predators using trail cameras.
Participate in spring or fall call counts.
Care for captive bobwhites in the research facility.
Participate in outreach events.
Assist with UAV flights as a visual observer.
Light duty construction projects and building, and vehicle maintenance.

Required Qualifications:
High School or equivalent and two years work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's in Natural Resources Management, Wildlife Biology or closely related field.
Experience with birds and telemetry is strongly desired.
Plant identification of Rolling Plains of Texas flora.
