Job Summary/Basic Function:
Job Description:
The Center for Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship is seeking a results-oriented professional to fill the position of Technology Associate. The Technology Associate will assess usage of existing technologies and facilitate development and research of new technologies through collaboration between Lamar University's research programs and incubator clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop relationships with key people involved in the development and spinout of commericalizable research (e.g. researchers, technology transfer offices, industry relations offices) that can lead to job creation.
  • Seek, scan, assess and prioritize technologies and researchers that have innovations that can lead to successful commercial products and/or start companies based on those innovations.
  • Work with CICE staff, mentors, and incubator tenants to facilitate the development of R&D strategies, product development plans, and business plans associated with the formation and launch of new companies based on university-developed innovations.
  • Perform formative activities for selected spinout opportunities including writing executive summaries to characterize the business opportunity, evaluating the competitive landscape, and identifying opportunities for fund raising.
  • Monitor, track, and report progress of funded spinout companies to key stakeholders.
  • Maintain regular interaction with funded spinout companies and facilitate connections to mentors and incubator programs.
  • Perform outreach to drive awareness of CICE grant programs available to university researchers that target commercialization and innovation.
  • Make connections between CICE startup companies and university researchers that lead to R&D collaborations and competitive proposals.
  • Work with university partners to support their capabilities and capacity and to help them connect with startups and industry collaborators.
  • Manage or support various university programs focused on student-led projects and business plan competitions.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Qualifications:

    Education:
    Ideal candidate will have a B.S. in a technical or engineering field. M.S. Degree is highly desired.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:
    A blend of technology assessment and business assessment skills across a range of industries.
    An engaging personality with the ability to develop good relationships with university researchers.
    Related experience in one or more of the following is highly preferred: research & development, venture capital, entrepreneurship, technology transfer, product development, program management.
    Technical credibility and an ability to assess a wide range of innovations in a variety of technical disciplines with an eye for those that have significant commercial potential.
    Strong business skills related to new venture development including market assessment and competitive analysis.
    Demonstrated ability to work both closely with others in a team environment and very independently.
    Strong oral and written communication skills.
    Strong organization and time management skills.
    A passion for sustainability, entrepreneurship, and economic development.

    Physical Requirements:
    Sedentary, exerting up to 40 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time.
