The Department of Theatre and Dance at California State University, Dominguez Hills invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Academic Year Assistant or Associate Professor with the appointment starting in Fall 2019.

Department of Theatre and Dance
The Theatre and Dance Program offers courses in the fields of speech acting, dance, directing, choreographing, design and technical theatre, theatre and dance history, dramatic literature, and others. Course requirements for both the major and the minor programs provide for flexibility and allow students considerable choice in planning their academic careers.
Theatre Arts Majors (Theatre Arts and Dance Options) and Theatre and Dance Minors participate in the department's ambitious production program through acting, dance, scenic design and construction, lighting, stage management, box office, and other areas. Academic credit is provided for such participation.

The Position
The ideal candidate will be a scholar/teacher with a specialty in oral communication in a bilingual or multi-lingual setting. A background in theatre is desirable, but not required. All candidates must have a strong record of teaching public speaking to undergraduates. A record of scholarly achievement or promise is required, although candidates with a strong professional experience will also be considered. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to promoting student academic success through the instruction of public speaking and oral communication and have a strong commitment to student academic success, the ability to act as a mentor, and sensitivity to equality and diversity issues.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching three undergraduate courses per semester from the following: Fundamentals of Speech, Speech Skills and Techniques, Voice and Diction, Oral Interpretation of Literature, Persuasion, and Interpersonal Communication. The ability to coordinate the Speech Program to include management skills to coordinate over 25 sections of Fundamentals of Speech, foster student interest in the Speech Minor, translate voice and performance strategies in the speech classroom; while teaching master classes to speech faculty, teach argumentation and debate as well as starting and coaching a debate team, assist in the area of forensics, develop new courses for bilingual or multi-lingual speakers, and foster Speaking Across the Curriculum by leading campus-wide programs to help reinforce basic skills in oral communication in Upper Division Courses for students and faculty. Other duties include curriculum development, student advisement for speech minors, participation in developing department procedures and guidelines, involvement in student recruitment, committee service at the department, college and university level. Faculty will be expected to continue professional activities by publishing, presenting at conferences, competing with the debate team, and other related professional or creative activities.
