Position Description
Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions

Changes safe combination as requested and performs adjustments as required. Opens locks and safes when keys or combinations are lost or malfunction. Installs, repairs and services door closures.
Repairs / services all commercial & institutional locks / hardware, desks, file cabinets, cabinets, automotive & other miscellaneous locks on campus. Sets up master key system to include: cutting a first key from system, setting cylinders to key & expanding the system.
Installs and services electronic locks. Programs electronic locks when necessary.
Performs tasks required for key issue and return process.
Maintains vehicle, tools, equipment and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks, and vans. Secures vehicles, equipment and areas of operation.
Provides after hours overtime work as required. Participates in emergency callback roster on a rotating basis.

Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyperson.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in installation and programming electronic locks. Ability to read manufacturer's schematics for hardware installation.
Three (3) years experience as a skilled locksmith.
