Job Summary

The Office of Career Services within the Division of Student Affairs encourages applications for an Internship Coordinator! This role is central to Career Services' efforts to increase internship awareness and participation at CU Boulder. This position will lead and promote impactful internship programming and career initiatives while providing meaningful resources for constituents looking to learn more about internship opportunities. Additionally, this role will assist in the recruitment and coordination of the CU Public Interest Internship Experience (PIIE), a summer internship program that provides students with paid internships at local nonprofit and government organizations.The Internship Coordinator will have a meaningful impact on students, employers, staff, and the greater CU community. Internships are high impact practices demonstrated to increase retention, improve job outcomes, build skills, expand networks, and provide career clarity for students. Employers rate internships as the top reason they will hire one student over another similarly qualified student and CU Boulder has a wealth of eager employer partners ready to hire interns. The Division of Student Affairs consists of 30 departments that provide student support and services dedicated to helping students become successful, curious, competent individuals during their time at CU Boulder. The work in Student Affairs supports all factors of the student experience, no matter what department a staff member may work in. This includes where students live, eat, make friends, build professional skills and find help if they need it. Many departments provide involvement opportunities, educational resources and support services to help students find their community and build lifelong skills. Student Affairs also has shared services departments that support the work and staff of our student-facing areas, including areas like assessment, business services, financial planning, human resources, marketing communications and information technology (IT).With over 800 staff members in the Division of Student Affairs, our diverse team is uniquely positioned to personalize the student experience and advocate for students, enhancing their success inside and outside the classroom.Career Services prepares CU Boulder students and alumni for their current and future goals through developing skills, facilitating connections and increasing self-knowledge. The team leads a comprehensive career-focused infrastructure for campus through tailored career planning, programs and resources for all colleges as well as providing access to professional experiences for students. Additionally, the department acts as an entry-point for hiring needs while cultivating strong employer partnerships to serve the university.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Provide Internship Resources to Campus:
  • Plan and lead workshops and class presentations on internships.
  • Create content related to internships.
  • Develop and maintain consistent workshops and on-demand presentations that provide skills for students in finding and securing internships.
  • Work in collaboration with marketing and communications colleagues to update website materials.
  • Serve as an expert on internships for various constituents including employers, students, campus colleagues, and parents.
  • Support employers in recruiting and providing strong internship experiences and align campus department around internship policies and standard processes.
  • Provide guidance to students on logistical questions, searches, and internship processes.
Lead Internship Programs and Initiatives:
  • Assist with the CU Public Interest Internship Experience (PIIE) program.
  • Recruit for and coordinate employers, market to students, review applications, develop professional development programming, build upon donor relationships, and ensure positive outcomes for the PIIE program.
  • Coordinate additional smaller internship programs within the office and assist with internship programs on campus.
  • Administer the CSVC 1000 course that provides credit for students participating in internships that require credit.
Increase and Track Internship Participation:
  • Work with colleagues in Career Services and across campus to increase rates of participation among our student body.
  • Track internship credit participation to meet university requirements in reporting.
  • Continuously research and share information that relates to internships to advance internship participation and resources.
Pursue Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Goals:
  • Uplift internships in tandem with campus-wide efforts to better serve all students and community members of CU Boulder.
  • Provide specific support to address participation gaps for some underrepresented and under-resourced populations that historically take part in internships at lower rates.
Support Peace Corps Campus Representative:
  • Support the Peace Corps campus representative in implementing recruiting initiatives for current students.
  • Maintain the long-standing partnership between the Peace Corps and CU Boulder. This partnership has helped CU Boulder to be one of the top universities in the country for sending alumni into Peace Corps roles.
Provide Assistance to the Office of Career Services and Student Affairs Divisional Needs:
  • Serve on committees, participate in trainings, and staff events such as Career Fairs, Open Houses, and Fall Welcome.


What You Should Know

  • Standard schedule is Monday - Friday, normal business hours.
  • This position will be starting in a hybrid work modality for the Fall Semester where we are working at least 3 days a week in person. This is subject to change starting in the Spring Semester, we plan on discussing this more during the interview process.


What We Can Offer

  • The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $54,369 annually. Onboarding assistance is available within Student Affairs division guidelines.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • 2 years experience in a role supporting students or similar populations.


What You Will Need

  • Demonstrated experience serving and collaborating with a variety of constituents including students.
  • Proven customer service skills as this position will interact with students, employers, and campus colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently, initiate and manage multiple projects, tasks, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve.
  • Solid understanding of PC platforms and Microsoft Office products.
