USD School of Law is one of the 84 law schools elected to the Order of the Coif, a national honor society for law school graduates. Detailed Description:
The University of San Diego School of Law invites applications for a Professor of Legal Writing position for the 2024-2025 academic year. This Professor will teach up to two section(s), each semester, of the required first-year legal research, writing, and analysis course, Legal Writing and Research. This position is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position. The Legal Writing and Research program seeks individuals who wish to work in a collaborative atmosphere with others who are committed to excellence in teaching.

The Professor's primary responsibilities will include teaching classes, preparing assignments, critiquing assignments, meeting with students, and contributing to the Legal Writing and Research program. Each legal writing faculty member is also responsible for all aspects of successful and timely course administration. Professors teach in both the day and evening programs, depending on need. Professors attend general faculty meetings and may serve on faculty committees. Professors are hired to work from August through May with the possibility of annual reappointment. After a successful first year, there is an expectation that the appointment will be renewed as a three-year appointment. The salary range is $80,000-$90,000.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.


Job Requirements:
Applicants for the position must have a JD degree, admission to the bar in any state, a strong academic record, and excellent writing skills. Applicants should have at least three years of recent legal work experience post-JD graduation. Experience teaching law students or attorneys is preferred. Familiarity with the use of AI in the legal setting is preferred.

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
