Job Summary:

The College of Lake County has an exciting opportunity for a Student Employment Coordinator to join our Career & Job Placement team who are committed to our college vision of being a leader in providing innovative education and workforce solutions. This position is responsible for maintaining a comprehensive and well-coordinated work study program for College of Lake County Students who receive Federal Work Study (FSE) dollars, Institutional Student Employment (ISE), College Student Employment (CSE), and Student Summer Employment Program support. The Student Employment Coordinator reports to the Executive Director of Career and Job Placement Center (CJPC) and oversees the student employment program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, processing student requisitions, managing on-boarding steps for new student employees, facilitating termination steps, monitoring salary increases, and processing reclassifications. Position will work closely with Human Resources to ensure timely processing of student employment transactions and troubleshoot any issues. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and excellent customer service. The Student Employment Coordinator is responsible for greeting students, faculty and staff; answering incoming calls and communications related to the student work study program; and, interpreting policy and procedures in order to communicate effectively to students, faculty and staff.

Job Description:

Project and Process Management: (50%)

Process student position requests (new hires, new jobs, employee terminations, salary increases).

Approve and post student requisitions.

Review payroll records to ensure timely payment to student employees.

Check student employee records for accuracy.

Update and distribute weekly recruitment reports.

Review of records for student and new hires in regards to accuracy of candidate information and approved position authorization data.

Monitor work study funds and budgets in collaboration with Career & Job Placement Center team and Financial Aid.

Determine the most effective and efficient way to track and process student employment transactions.

Student/Customer Service: (45%)

Serve as a liaison to departments ensuring that student employees meet student enrollment criteria.

Serve as a liaison to departments ensuring that student employees have completed all required training.

Create and provide trainings regarding the student employment process.

Create, edit and review the student employment handbook, policies and processes as needed.

Serve as a Career and Job Placement Center subject matter resource in Student Employment Program.

Acknowledge and process HR requests.

Provide status updates to internal stakeholders as needed.

Assist student employees and managers with general HR inquiries and/or connect them with the appropriate individuals.

Monitor student employees' performance and conduct annual performance evaluations to ensure that a qualified student pool exists to meet group objectives.

Consult students on their job requirements, including minimum credit hour requirements.

Hire, schedule, train and orient student employees.

Other: (5%)

Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Career and Job Placement Center.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's plus a minimum of one (1) year work experience in student recruiting, business, marketing, sales, advertising, staffing agency, career placement or comparable field; OR an Associate's degree plus a minimum of two (2) years' work experience in student recruiting, business, marketing, sales, advertising, staffing agency, career placement or comparable field.
  • Strong organizational and public speaking skills.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of people.
  • Experience with employer recruitment processes and monitoring employment trends.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of best practices including job market trends, employer relations and recruitment methodologies, and application of technology in the delivery of services.
  • Experience with database management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively across internal and external organizational structures.
  • Strong follow-up and follow-through skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills that emphasize effective listening.

Desired Qualifications

  • Willing to learn how to manage budgets.
  • Experience in the career planning or job search assistance field.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate sensitivity to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Work Schedule

Core hours are M-F 8am-4:30pm

Schedule may vary based on the needs of the college. Some Saturdays or evenings may be required.
