The position is Categorically funded.

Under general direction, the Evaluator Specialist is responsible for evaluation, graduation and transfer decisions based on completed coursework and to communicate the required standards to students, faculty, staff and others. This class is a paraprofessional discipline requiring analytical decision-making, communication of complex laws, rules, regulations and policies governing evaluation, articulation, graduation and transfers to CSU and UC colleges.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general direction from a director or other appropriately designated management classification. Will not act in the capacity of a supervisor but may be required to lead other staff.




EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
  • Evaluates transcripts from private, local, state, national, military and foreign colleges for equivalency in terms of depth, breadth, intent and when appropriate, IGETC requirements; determine articulation, graduation and transfer certifications to CSU, UC, private, independent and out of state universities and resolves any issues or differences.
  • Cooperates and consults with Division Deans and Program Directors to develop articulation of courses for specific disciplines; researches web resources such as ASSIST, WASC, AICCU and other resources for information from other colleges.
  • Interprets, analyzes and monitors potential and actual changes and developments regarding district, system, county, state and federal policies, codes and laws, including Title 5, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act; makes decisions regarding applicability of these to PCC students' graduation, articulation, and transfer certifications and defend decisions.
  • Responds to student inquiries; assists faculty, staff and students with grading issues and changes, reinstatements and approves and posts grade changes and reinstatements submitted by teachers.
  • Approves/denies petitions and posting Credit by Exam, Academic Renewal, and AP credits; approves and posts incomplete grade changes.
  • Disseminates current, accurate evaluation, graduation, certification and transfer information to all campus resources.
  • Monitors each stage of the evaluation and graduation process; explains and defends decisions regarding deficiencies or failure to meet requirements to students; meets with counselors and advisors to offer alternatives and recommends plans of corrective action.
  • Prepares reports and assists with record retention and accuracy.
  • Enters, downloads, imports and exports data regarding type of degree, major, honors and certification into the student records system and print diplomas.
  • Performs unscheduled work usually done by an Evaluation Specialist

Education and Experience:

  • Possession of a Bachelor's Degree and
  • Four years of related experience in a college setting.


Physical Demands
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various District and meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds.

Environmental Elements
Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
