Position Summary
Reporting to the AVP & Dean of Student Affairs, the Assistant/Associate Dean of Student Affairs assists in the design and delivery of a comprehensive student development program, and has direct line responsibility for the University's Conduct System, the Office of Residential Life, and the Office of Student Activities and Orientation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The statements below are intended to describe the principal duties of the person or persons assigned to this job. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties and responsibilities. Lasell University has the right to add or change the job responsibilities at any time.

1. Fulfill tasks consistent with the position as a senior administrator in the Division of Academic & Student Affairs, including: responding to student/parent concerns, and implementing protocols to address student emergencies. Provide direct oversight for the following functional units/tasks: Residential Life, Office of Student Activities and Orientation, and the University's Conduct System.

2. Directly hire and supervise: the Housing Manager for Residential Life and the Director of Student Activities and Orientation.

3. Oversee and implement the University Conduct System including: supervising due process procedures, as outlined in the Student Handbook and as they relate to student behavior and discipline; coordinating communications with students (and their families, when appropriate) and members of the University community, as they relate to the Conduct System; serving as an Administrative Hearing Officer; and ensuring consistency between, and among, the various professional staff who serve as Hearing Officers.

4. Serve as the primary Hearing Officer for cases involving allegations of Sexual Misconduct.

5. Exemplify and cultivate effective intercultural engagement among colleagues and students, and foster an inclusive atmosphere.

6. Conduct pertinent survey work and research regarding the quality of student life in the residential system and collaborate with the Health Educator on the provision of alcohol education for the campus community.

7. Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of relevant state, federal and local laws; stay abreast of trends in the field of higher education; and receive annual training as required by law; identify and enact proven practices in the field of education related to student support, case management, harassment, and other discriminatory practices that violate Title IX.

8. Oversee the collection of data, and analysis thereof, as it pertains to: housing patterns; student conduct.

9. Assume division-wide responsibilities as designated by the AVP & Dean; represent Student Affairs at various meetings and events; serve on institutional committees/task forces as necessary, including: Orientation Committee, Student Success Committee, Strategic Planning retreats, and others as assigned.

10. Communication: all internal University constituencies (including: students, their families, staff, faculty), and particularly: the Director of Public Safety; Legal Counsel; and Title IX staff; staff of the Donahue Institute; Director of Facilities and Sustainability Management; members of the Campus Police force; and Directors of Health Services and Counseling; prospective students and parents; media representatives.

11. Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education level: Master's degree in related field (higher education administration, student development, counseling).

Computer skills: Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Other Requirements of the Job:
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of progressively more responsible experience in student affairs/student life; direct experience in Residential Life; experience administering one or more of the traditional functional units within the student life arena, at a senior level; experience supervising professional staff
  • Training in, and working knowledge of, Title IX, FERPA, ADA; working knowledge of college/university student conduct systems, and best practices
  • Skills in trauma informed communication; strong skills in conflict resolution, de-escalation, and mediation
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the concerns and needs of diverse student/staff populations
  • Demonstrated evidence of skills in written and oral communication
  • Demonstrated commitment to continual development of effective intercultural engagement and skills
  • Experience and competence in providing direct service to students and their families, budgeting, and crisis management
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours

PREFERRED CERTIFICATION: A record of training and certifications relevant to Title IX.
