Job Description:

The Madison College School of Human & Protective Services is currently seeking a dedicated Instructional Support Technician - EMS to support our program. This position plays a crucial role in coordinating equipment scheduling, purchasing, customer service, and day-to-day administrative operations. We're looking for a detail-oriented and highly organized individual with excellent multitasking abilities and strong communication skills. In this role, you'll help ensure smooth operations by maintaining accurate records and responding promptly to the needs of faculty and staff. Your efforts will directly support the college's mission of academic excellence and student success.

The Instructional Support Technician - EMS also plays a key role in maintaining a safe, hands-on learning environment. Responsibilities include managing the inventory and upkeep of EMS supplies and equipment across multiple courses and campus locations. This includes performing regular maintenance, scheduling repairs, coordinating annual service, and recommending new equipment purchases. Ensuring all EMS materials are well-stocked and ready for use is essential to the success of our programs.

This is a part-time position scheduled for up to 19 hours per week, year-round (52 weeks). Working hours will vary Monday - Friday depending on operational needs.

Accountabilities:
  • Perform and assist with lab set up and take down; assemble, prepare, and arrange required materials, models, and equipment for student and faculty usage as required. Maintains necessary supplies.
  • Ensures availability and operation of equipment by performing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturers' instructions; trouble shooting malfunctions; arranging repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; collaborate with faculty to evaluate new equipment and technologies.
  • Within College regulations, policies and procedures performs purchasing duties as assigned for equipment, supplies and/or services. Works with approved vendors and suppliers to ensure equipment, materials, supplies and services meet the needs of the program.
  • Assist instructors, reinforces safety protocols
  • Vehicle and apparatus checks, maintenance, and maintenance arrangements.
  • Other duties as assigned by department and/or school.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing with students, faculty, staff, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills while engaging with individuals from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures related to NREMT, State of Wisconsin standards and procedures, TRANS309, and DHS 110.
  • Knowledge of purchasing process and maintaining equipment inventory.
  • Ability to operate, install, fix, and maintain equipment, tools, supplies, and classrooms/labs.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision; ability to prioritize tasks based on competing priorities.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) field or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience related to the position.
  • Current or prior EMS licensure at the Emergency Medical Technician Level or above.
  • Valid driver's license.
