A. POSITION PURPOSE
For the Leavey School of Business, this Director of Career Readiness, in the Graduate Business Programs (GBP) career services team, leads in the development and implementation of short and long range goals, objectives, and strategies primarily relating to services for current students and alumni on career development, job search strategy and all the skills/deliverables that are essential for business networking and career advancement; develops and manages career related workshops/programs with assistance from department staff and outside experts for professional development/skills; develops relationship building strategy and manages multifaceted relationships with staff, faculty, alumni, and students; and provides career services to individuals and groups. The position will be responsible for the vision and implementation of events for career-related programs, and professional development series for all GBP students (current and alumni). Deliverables include internally developed and produced, interactive and experiential multi-session programs, videos and podcasts, as well as engagement of external speakers and subject matter experts on career development.
B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Career Readiness Leadership and Career Competencies Consultation (40%)
- Collaborate with Sr. Director and Director of Career Connections to develop a strategy and execute Career Readiness plans and programs for all of GBP.
- Lead strategy and implementation of plan to align existing GBP Career Services programs and resources to improve students' workforce readiness.
- Champion a culture of Career Readiness competencies by collaborating with faculty, staff, and student groups on how to embed key competencies into services/programming for students and alumni
- Define, plan, and manage comprehensive career resources and platforms for all GBP students, as needed to support excellence in GBP career services delivery. This includes student group sessions for skills-based experiential learning to become workforce ready.
- Guide students on long and short- term career strategy action plan development; engaging them in programs and services to improve career readiness competencies.
- Leverage industry and business experience to deliver information to students on career development and transition, job search tools, employment market trends, empowering students to compete for employment opportunities.
- Provide comprehensive career management services to students and alumni that are innovative and collaborative.
- Develop a strategy for measuring the impact of career readiness competencies and gather results for continuous improvement of career services offerings.
2. Career Readiness Events & Program Management (30%)
- Develop, manage, and implement select career events, workshops and programs to educate students on all aspects of career management and the job search process, preparing students to secure full-time and internship opportunities. Primary emphasis is on experiential learning that focuses on soft skills.
- Integrate career workshops/programs with academic curriculum as much as possible. This includes role-play, with mock interviews as an example, but expanded to all phases of the job search and career planning - for ongoing career advancement and workplace excellence.
- Provide program management support for various career services offerings/resources including maintenance of career tools and platforms (e.g. social media tools, GBP Career Services website); and data tracking and evaluation for reporting of department processes, procedures and platforms.
- Engage well established alumni and external subject matter experts for events that help with the career advancement of current students and more recent alums.
- Collaborate with the Sr. Director to produce and execute quarterly plans for workshops, seminars, panels, etc. to meet the needs of GBP students and alumni. Collect feedback and evaluate programs, to continuously improve offerings.
- Using benchmarking from peer or aspirational programs, and feedback from students, manage continuous improvements of online and in-person career and student engagement events.
- Support networking opportunities including but not limited to bi-annual receptions and annual career conferences.
3. Corporate Outreach and Employer Relationship Support (15%)
- Support the growth of GBP's employer base, particularly in Silicon Valley but also beyond; deepen existing recruiting relationships to effectively manage demand for employer engagement, and feature employer jobs through GBP LinkedIn Group and Hot Jobs Newsletter.
- Develop strong connections with prospective employers and alumni to engage with GBP Career Services to improve business networks and increase career connections for students.
- Develop programs that support employment opportunities among the GBP student population, such as employer information sessions, employer treks, on-campus- interviews, and shadow days.
- Support processes to communicate timely, relevant recruiting information to students, GBP staff and others as appropriate.
- Represent the GBP at select corporate career events and professional conferences, as needed.
- Present unified position to the Bay Area business community.
4.Career Platform Management and Leadership (15%)
- Collaborate with Handshake/12Twenty, CareerLeader survey, Jobscan and other systems for Graduate Business Programs. Ensures that data is loaded and works with staff to troubleshoot as needed.
- Support Sr. Director through the use of data analytics to develop and maintain database and measurement tools to assess effectiveness of student employment activities and successes.
- University-wide Collaboration and Partnerships: Lead cross-functional initiatives and build strategic partnerships across academic departments, alumni networks, and student organizations to enhance the career readiness of GBP students and strengthen the university's employer relations pipeline. Champion collaboration to align institutional goals with the evolving needs of the workforce. Collaborate and work closely with SCU Career Center and other appropriate SCU departments such as Ciocca Center.
- Career Services Industry Engagement: Drive proactive engagement with industry leaders, alumni, and corporate partners to create impactful career opportunities and internships for GBP students. Take the lead in identifying emerging trends in key sectors and cultivating relationships that position the business school as a trusted partner for talent development in finance, entrepreneurship, and technology. Represent SCU in the primary industry group known as Career Services & Employer Alliance (CSEA).
C. WORK DIRECTION AND SUPERVISION
- This position will report to Sr Director of Career Services in Leavey's Graduate Business Career Management (GBCM) department.
- This position will direct and supervise On-Call Employees for the purposes of one-on-one coaching of Leavey GBP current students and alumni.
D. GENERAL GUIDELINES
Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services.
- Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices.
- Maintains contact with customers and solicits feedback for improved services.
- Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools, planned training and performance initiatives.
- Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.
- Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.
- Prepares and submits reports as requested and required.
- Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.

- Familiarity with career platforms and industry trends relevant to career services professionals, with the ability to assess and measure the impact of career development and readiness programs. Stay informed on emerging tools and technologies that enhance student career services and employer engagement strategies.
- Appreciation for the academic and professional aspirations of students in varied business disciplines. Abilities

- Proven excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated presentation skills; exceptional attention to detail and editing ability highly desired.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; ability to perform data analysis with Excel highly desired.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree required. Master's degree in business, education, marketing, counseling, or a related field preferred.
Years of Experience
- 5-6 years of professional experience required. Experience in a university or corporate setting with some direct customer service experience necessary; counseling and career advisement, program management, or industry experience in corporate recruiting, talent management, or career placement activities desirable.
