Broadcast Feature Producer

Job Summary

The University of Utah Athletics Department is seeking a talented, creative, and detail-oriented Broadcast Feature Producer to join our dynamic media team. This individual will be responsible for producing engaging, high-quality feature content that showcases the stories of student-athletes, coaches, and the university's athletic programs. The Broadcast Feature Producer will work closely with other members of the broadcast and creative media team to produce compelling narratives that resonate with fans, alumni, and the greater University of Utah community.

Responsibilities
  • ESPN+ Feature Story Production : Conceptualize, script, and produce feature stories on athletes, coaches, and key athletic events, showcasing unique angles that highlight the human side of sports. This should be emotional and impactful content that enhances the fan experience and recruiting opportunities by providing insight into the team, game preparation, and celebrations of victories.
  • Content Development : Collaborate with the Athletics Communications team to identify interesting storylines, uncover new features, and develop fresh ideas that represent the spirit and culture of Utah Athletics.
  • Innovative Storytelling : Continuously seek out new ways to tell stories through visuals, sound, and storytelling techniques, staying current with trends in sports media production.
  • Lead Stylistic Shoots : Creatively lead documentary style interview shoots, using a range of camera and lighting techniques to showcase our student athletes and coaches in a one-on-one setting.
  • Video Editing : Edit video content, including interview features, VO features, high energy highlights and short event recaps, into polished, compelling stories for distribution on television, digital platforms and social media.
  • Collaborative Teamwork : Work alongside the broadcast team, creative media team, photographers, graphic designers, and social media managers to ensure cohesive messaging and content alignment with overall Athletics Department branding.
  • Live Event Integration : Capture and create behind-the-scenes and feature content at live athletic events, integrating the unique atmosphere and energy into stories that extend beyond the scoreboard.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Production, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in broadcast media production, video production, or feature storytelling, ideally in sports.
  • Advanced proficiency with video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Avid, etc.).
  • Technical familiarity with cinema-style cameras, preferably Sony FX-6.
  • Strong experience in storytelling, including scripting, video editing, and pacing.
  • Ability to shoot a wide variety of live sports in creative ways.
  • Knowledge of sports, with an understanding of how to highlight the emotional and personal narratives behind athletic achievement.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment and working with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on the athletic calendar.
  • Strong familiarity with the University of Utah's athletics programs and a passion for representing Utah's legacy in collegiate sports.


Preferences
  • Experience in producing content for broadcast platforms, particularly in sports or collegiate athletics.
  • Background in live broadcast production, including directing or technical assistance with live streams.
  • Familiarity with broadcast graphics and animation software (e.g., Ross XPression, DAK Show Control).
  • Previous experience with college athletics, especially in the Big 12 or a major sports conference.
  • Understanding of the University of Utah's mission, values, and athletic culture.
