Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer to play a key role in shaping data-driven decision-making across the institution. This position offers the opportunity to lead the design, development, and support of innovative BI solutions-including ETL workflows, data warehouses, and data marts-while collaborating with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into actionable insights. Summary of Responsibilities

Data Model Development, Validation, & Troubleshooting - Lead moving data from Ingestion layers into the defined, documented domains/data marts and/or warehouses. Lead peers in data validation efforts.
Data Model Design: Evaluate existing data systems; working with the development team to create conceptual data models and data flows; develop bespoke databases/warehouses/marts utilizing a mixture of conceptual, physical and logical models as appropriate. Data
Process Documentation & Design - ERD Diagrams, Definition Verification - working with UVU's established Data Governance processes and Data Intelligence Platform, Data Mappings.
Professional Development - Coaches, trains, and guides other team members through UVU's Governance processes. Contributes to a robust culture of professionalism and personal development. Spends time keeping up with current trends in the BI Engineering space to help UVU Utah Valley University prepare to adjust and lead in those trends.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Bachelor's degree plus 10 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and related experience. At least 5 industry certifications related to the tools used in the job are required or required to be received within the first 90 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

Knowledge in Agile Data Modeling methods.
Knowledge in Kimball Warehousing.
Knowledge in Collibra (Data Intelligence Platform).
Knowledge of Visual Collaboration Tools (Lucid, Visio, etc.).

Skills

Experience with work management / ticketing systems.
Experience in data visualization/presentation tools.
Experience with at least one scripting language (Perl, Python, Ruby, PHP).
Experience with SQL (Oracle, T-SQL, etc.).
Experience with Jupiter Notebooks.
Experience with Azure Synapse.
Direct experience using business intelligence reporting tools (Tableau, Power BI, Business Objects, Cognos, etc.).
Direct experience using ETL Tools (SQL, Informatica, Synapse, Oracle Data Integrator, etc.).
Relational database modeling, design, and management (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server).
Data warehouse and data mart modeling and design.

Abilities

Ability to summarize complexity.
Ability to simplify technical concepts.
Demonstrates effective visual communication (drawing, slides, diagrams, etc.).
Communicates technical concepts and analysis implications clearly to a wide audience, including senior executives.
