Job Description:
Madison College is hiring a part-time Student Success Coach. This holistic coaching/advising position is responsible for the delivery of comprehensive academic, retention, career and transfer coaching and advising services and activities. This position serves as a primary case-manager for a designated population and supports the strategic goals for student access and success. This individual delivers effective services to improve the persistence, retention, and degree credential attainment of our students. This individual helps students in determining decision points around processes that impact their academic success. This individual proactively coaches and advises a caseload of students in the development of meaningful Personal Education Plans that are compatible with their academic, career and life goals. This individual serves higher risk students (who are in jeopardy of failing or falling behind) through Madison College's Navigate Referral and Alert Process.
The Student Success Coach is housed in the RISE (Retention Initiatives and Student Engagement) Office and works with staff, faculty and administrators from schools and units across the district. RISE is a supportive learning community dedicated to students' academic and professional success. We offer advising, coaching, mentoring, tutoring and many ways to engage with RISE students through workshops, events, and celebrations. We support all high promise students: students of color, first-generation students, income-eligible, military-affiliated students and students with disabilities.
This position reports to the Manager, RISE.
This part-time position is scheduled for 20 hours per week, year-round (52 weeks), with a flexible Monday through Friday schedule within the core business hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for events. The role offers the option to work remotely 1-2 days per week, subject to change based on Madison College policy.
This is a grant-funded renewable position through June 30, 2026, with the expectation that it will renew.

Accountabilities:
Academic Advising and Success Coaching:
- With training and mentoring, this role holistically advises students on academic planning, career options, admissions, transfer opportunities, and degree requirements. It supports and delivers individual and group sessions, represents RISE on college committees, and refers students to appropriate resources when needed. The role also promotes student success by helping them build skills in study strategies, time management, and self-confidence.
Student Retention/Case Management:
- This role supports students in academic planning, identifying support needs, and navigating transitions into and through college. It assists students on academic and financial aid SAP, responds to faculty alerts, and connects students to campus and community resources. Using developmental advising, the role promotes student success through personalized support and proactive retention efforts, with a focus on BIPOC, first-generation, and military-connected students. It fosters a culture of access, equity, and inclusion across the college community.
Career and Employment Advising:
- This role assists students with career exploration, goal setting, and job search strategies by using assessment tools and labor market data. It also connects students to local workforce resources and supports career-related workshops, presentations, and events.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
- This role ensures timely data entry by recording student contacts in Navigate within 24 hours and entering completed PEPs. It also supports the preparation of monthly, quarterly, mid-year, and year-end reports, and completes required client-reporting steps for grant tracking and compliance purposes.
Technology:
- This role involves troubleshooting technology issues and providing training to students and staff on the effective use of various systems. It regularly utilizes a range of computer applications and tools, including Navigate, PeopleSoft, Cognos, OnBase, Transferology, Career Cruising, Focus 2, Handshake, CRM, and Blackboard, to support student services and operational efficiency.
Marketing and Public Relations:
- This role supports the development of marketing materials and promotional efforts for both Coaching services and the broader RISE unit. It also assists in preparing and presenting information about RISE services and activities to various audiences.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
- Knowledge of Student Development and Learning College theory and principles to include knowledge of CAS standards for academic and career advising and NACADA core values and their application in program delivery.
- Demonstrated knowledge of developmental, academic and career advising skills for students of assigned program to include knowledge of transfer opportunities, program and degree requirements, certifications, admission/petitioning processes and other pertinent information to deliver effective advising.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully support and collaborate with individuals at all levels in the organization in a team-based environment as well as working independently
- Skilled in problem solving and resolution techniques and strategies.
- Demonstrated research and presentation skills and the ability to plan, promote, conduct and implement events, educational workshops, trainings and programs.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education:
Associates Degree required (Bachelors Preferred) or equivalent additional work experience. - Experience:
1-3+ years of relevant work experience.
