Description
The Center for Security and Emerging Technology is a research organization focused on studying the security impacts of emerging technologies and delivering nonpartisan analysis to technologists and policymakers. We are currently seeking a Senior Data Fellow.

Reporting to the Director of Data Science and Research, the Senior Data Fellow will be a part of CSET's data team and have responsibility for:

Designing, implementing, and overseeing large-scale team projects, including multi-year projects, in collaboration with Analysis and Data teams to ensure projects support CSET's data-driven analysis;
Ingesting structured and unstructured data sets into GCP, building and maintaining data processing pipelines, and delivering improvements to product code and documentation to increase analytic value and accessibility;
Leveraging specialist expertise (NLP, network analysis, web scraping) to develop, evaluate, and deploy novel solutions over large datasets;
Drawing substantive inferences from data for audiences that include researchers and policymakers;
Providing expertise in research design and quantitative inference in support of rigorous analysis at CSET;
Mentoring colleagues and supporting CSET professional development;
Coordinating with the Director of Data Science and Research to ensure efficient team processes and policies, data sourcing, robust data governance and reliable data quality, identify opportunities for external collaboration and outreach, and supervising contractors and external collaborators, as needed;
Selecting, mentoring, and managing a small team of entry-level data team staff and/or student research assistants; coaching staff on how to perform, write, and present data-driven research to policymakers; ensuring appropriate team and individual upskilling to advance mission and drive impact;
Monitoring trends and developments in AI, ML, biotechnology, and national security policy
Contributing to CSET's organizational development, including internal working groups, seminars, and discussions; and supporting and mentoring colleagues
Upholding CSET's mission, values and culture
Additional duties as assigned

In general, the Senior Data Science and Research Fellow is expected to earn an annual starting salary between $170,000 and $175,000 commensurate with experience.

This position is based in the United States and offers no relocation assistance. This position is not eligible for a specialty-occupation sponsorship and, accordingly, this position requires that all applicants be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship from Georgetown University.

This position is designated as hybrid, which means candidates will be expected to work from CSET's D.C. office at least 2-3 days per week.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Advanced degree in a quantitative field like economics, mathematics, computer science, or engineering, or related area of study [or 5+ years of relevant coursework or professional research/engineering experience];
5+ years of quantitative or statistical analysis experience
5+ years of experience with SQL;
5+ years of experience with Python and/or R (or equivalent languages);
Experience with advanced approaches to statistics and machine learning model development;
Experience designing research projects and managing project delivery;
Experience processing, documenting, and analyzing data sets;
Ability to excel in a highly collaborative team environment;
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, demonstrated through the development of publications and delivery of presentations;
Proficiency with office productivity tools like Google Docs/Sheets, Microsoft Office, etc.
Motivated, enthusiastic, intellectually curious and self-driven
