Position Announcement
The Department of Applied Engineering and Transportation Technologies (www.uvu.edu/auto) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Diesel Mechanics Technology to begin August 2025.
The diesel mechanics technology faculty member develops and teaches undergraduate courses in one or more areas: diesel engine overhaul, diesel engine operation/tune-up, electrical systems, engine electrical diagnostics, power trains/chassis, fluid power/hydraulics, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC), and EV/hybrid technology. The faculty member engages in scholarly activities that contribute to the mission of the university, department, and profession. In addition, the faculty provides service at the department, college, and university levels and in professional organizations.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
- Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
- Engages in scholarly activities including applied research and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department.
- Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Graduation from an accredited institution with a relevant bachelor's degree
- At least one year of relevant industry experience
- Graduation from an accredited institution with a relevant master's degree
- At least two years of relevant industry experience.
- Transportation or engineering certificate
- ASE certified in one or more areas: (Medium - Heavy Duty Truck Diesel T1,T2,T3,T4,T5,T6,T7,T8), (School Bus S1, S2. S3.S4,S5,S6), (Transit Bus H1,H2,H3,H4,H5,H6), (Truck Equipment E1,E2,E3)
- Industry Specific Training in one or more areas: Komatsu, John Deere, Cat, Bobcat, Peterbilt, Cummins, Allision
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Knowledge of industry certifications and approved repair techniques
- Knowledge through industry experience of diesel technology.
- Knowledge of and technical expertise in current and future technology in diesel mechanics education.
- Knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle systems.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic systems, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Knowledge of diagnostics procedures and troubleshooting practices.
- Knowledge of road trucks and diesel equipment.
- Knowledge of diesel engines, turbos and fuel systems.
- Knowledge of drivetrains and late model transmission technology.
- Knowledge of steering, suspension and braking systems.
- Knowledge of light duty diesel technology.
- Knowledge of autonomous and semiautonomous vehicle technology.
- Skills and experience in technical repairs
- Skills and in-depth understanding of diesel engines, fuel systems, diagnostics of fuel management systems and tunning, suspensions, braking systems.
- Skills in various teaching methods in catering to different learning styles.
- Skills in electrical diagnostics and diagnostics of advanced electrical systems with diesel equipment and vehicles.
- Skills in mentoring and guiding support during students learning journey in diesel technology.
- Providing exceptional care to students.
- Skills in evaluating students' performance and providing constructive feedback for growth and learning.
- Skills in designing courses that meet professional and educational standards.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills

- Ability to stay current with the latest diesel technology.
- Ability to help students prepare for industry certification testing for ASE and AED.
- Ability and willingness to take courses that will help develop strategies for classroom and lab instruction.
- Ability to keep students engaged and track student progression.
