Manager of University Student Programs

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Co-Directors of Learning & Engagement, the Manager of University Student Programs supports Museum-wide objectives by administering engaging and dynamic programming for University of Utah student audiences. By seeking opportunities for collaboration, developing programs with student participation in mind, and keeping abreast of possibilities on our dynamic campus, the Manager makes students from across disciplines and at different stages in their academic careers feel welcome at the Museum.
The Manager is responsible for stewarding established programs like Art + Wellness, Sight & Sound, Drop-In Drawing Disco, and Day With(out) Art, as well as certain community partnerships that engage students. The Manager also builds new relationships with students on campus, connecting to organizations, courses, and events with the support of the Co-Director of L&E. Ultimately, this position is charged with thinking strategically about student programs that will educate, excite, open doors, and enrich students' lives at the University of Utah.
The Manager will ensure that programming encourages active participation by connecting students to UMFA's global collection, and create opportunities to arrive at new understandings about art, each other, and the world. An integral member of the Learning & Engagement Team, the manager will contribute to the broader work of the department, envisioning the ways we can work together to best engage our audiences.
The Manager will help to advance the UMFA's commitment to being a museum where our communities find themselves represented, welcomed, engaged, and heard.

Responsibilities
Duties include: Implement innovative programming for University of Utah students. When appropriate, and in collaboration with the Co-Director of Learning & Engagement, develop programming in partnership with campus and community partners based on goals, philosophies, and pedagogies identified by both the Museum and partners. Build relationships and partnerships with University of Utah student organizations, groups, academic departments, community organizations, and museum colleagues statewide. Champion UMFA's role as a resource for students across disciplines. Collaborate with University of Utah students, staff, and faculty to connect UMFA's global collection of art through interdisciplinary teaching and learning; Support production of bi-annual faculty newsletter, connecting University community to special exhibitions, etc. Receive training for, then provide, tours for adult and University audiences related to course needs and interests. Monitor and improve processes for evaluating programs on an ongoing basis. Report on and suggest revisions to current adult programming offerings on evaluative tools and best practice standards. Propose new offerings that reflect current trends and issues in museums and university education. Support development of, then facilitate/manage, internship program. Manage and maintain supplies and educational materials for programs. Monitor budgets and keep detailed records for programs. Represent the Department of Learning & Engagement in the Museum through exhibition planning teams; exhibition-related educational programming; Learning & Engagement programs; and collaborate across Museum departments to support collective efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
