POSITION SUMMARY:
The Community College of Aurora is a dynamic institution that strives to serve its diverse student population through innovations in instruction and student support founded on principles of equity and inclusivity. Our Public Service department, in particular, is continually working to refine its pedagogy, practice, and assessment to improve outcomes for all students, particularly those with marginalized or minoritized identities. The successful candidate for this regular faculty position will develop and revise curricula and teach 100 and 200-level courses effectively in the Emergency Medical Services. The successful candidate will possess a teaching style which deeply engages students in the learning process. CCA is an institution where faculty are involved in service to the college, including service that contributes to institutional decision-making. The faculty member will work collaboratively with colleagues across the college, participating in advising, committee assignments, and other academic and institutional support activities. The responsibilities of this position will include: participating in the development and updating of curricula; actively engaging students; contributing to instructional planning and assessment; pursuing continued professional development in subject matter and instructional methods; supporting student activities; and working to address the needs and strategic plan for the department and the Center for Professional Studies and Public Service. Ultimately, the successful candidate will be a creative educator who values diversity, is committed to Inclusive Excellence, and works well in a collaborative environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide and support quality instruction in on-campus, online, and concurrent enrollment courses using current teaching and learning methods and technologies
  • Participate in development and implementation of departmental assessment
  • Participate in innovations in instruction that foster completion and retention for all student populations
  • Engage in service to the college
  • Participate in college-wide Inclusive Excellence initiatives
  • Serve as a collaborative member of the social sciences department faculty team
  • Develop innovative strategies to promote degree completion in EMS
  • Actively engage students in the learning process
  • Pursue professional development in subject matter and instructional methods
  • Support student activities and advising
  • Other duties as assigned




REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An associate's degree in the content area
  • At least one year of experience in Emergency Medicine or Pre-Hospital Care
  • College-level teaching experience
  • Current certification as an EMS provider (may be National Registry, but must be eligible for and obtain certification in Colorado within six months if hired)
  • Possess or qualify for a post-secondary credential
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Community college teaching experience
  • Experience with, and understanding of, diverse student populations
  • Knowledge of Inclusive Excellence
  • Knowledge of online LMS platforms (Desire2Learn, Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)
  • Understanding of the full range of student needs
  • Dedication to interactive, learner-centered teaching methods
  • Experience in program and curriculum development
  • Background in high school concurrent enrollment courses
  • Bachelor's degree in paramedicine or advanced degree in a related field
  • Colorado EMS Instructor certification
  • ACLS, PALS, or PHTLS Instructor certification





Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range: $61,591.00-$73,949.65 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Work hours may be flexed from weekdays to weeknights or weekends depending on program needs and in consultation with the chair.
