Job Summary

The Office of Strategic Relations and Communications (SRC) at CU Boulder is seeking an Executive Communications Coordinator for speechwriting, correspondence, and social media support. This position will assist with Chancellor Justin Schwartz's internal and external communications and will report to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications. This position will also work closely with the Director of Executive Communications and the Executive Administration & Operations Director for the Office of the Chancellor. The ideal candidate will be a clear and capable communicator, highly organized, self-motivated, and attentive to detail, with a competency in social media management. This position may occasionally deal with sensitive information, and a commitment to confidentiality is vital. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Craft talking points, remarks, video scripts, and/or correspondence for various campus, community, and donor audiences.
  • Develop an editorial calendar and draft content for the chancellor's social media platform(s) in conjunction with campus social media managers.
  • Track, manage, and respond to the chancellor's email correspondence from both internal and external sources, working in collaboration with BuffInfo, the university's centralized resource for information and questions.
  • Maintain and update digital content on the chancellor's website at colorado.edu/chancellor.
  • Assist with internal messages to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Liaise with internal and external partners, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community leaders. Build and maintain positive relationships to support the chancellor's initiatives.
  • Conduct research on various topics to support the chancellor's communications and decision-making processes. Analyze data and provide insights to advise strategic communications.
Additional Duties as Assigned:
  • Complete other duties as needed. This can include, but is not limited to, collaborating with the Office of the Chancellor to market and coordinate chancellor events, including invitations, webpages, event surveys and other collateral and participating in news and media relations efforts, marketing and other paid efforts, strategic event support, crisis communication support and other strategic efforts for Strategic Relations and Communications.

  • The starting salary for this position is $69,500 - $78,000.

What We Require

  • 2+ years of professional work experience as a writer, editor, and/or marketing or communications professional. Including proven experience in executive communications or a similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and execution of communications plans. This includes internal or external news releases and news packages, talking points and speeches for senior leadership, email messages, and social media posts.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and standard methodologies.
  • Experience with strategic communications planning, project management, and the execution of communications across multiple media (print, web, multimedia, advertising, events, social media, public relations, etc.).

  • Ability to write for both the ear and eye.
  • Strong research skills with a fluency in topical news and culture related to higher education issues and trends, as well as awareness of political and constituent sensitivity regarding higher education issues.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to learn the chancellor's "voice" and conform to leadership's expectations for written style and content.
  • Ability to accept and apply constructive feedback.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships, especially with senior leadership and internal and external partners.
  • Ability to navigate a complex organization and work with multiple constituents and stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, donors, public officials, and the broader public.
  • Ability to meet target dates and generate a significant volume of content.
  • Ability to research and distill complicated university initiatives and public policy issues.
  • Skilled in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to generate and design basic graphics and collateral materials.
