Utah Valley University is seeking a highly skilled and strategic professional to serve as a Senior Microsoft 365 Administrator-an expert-level role responsible for leading the design, implementation, and support of the university's Microsoft 365 environment. In this position, you will play a critical role in shaping secure, scalable, and efficient cloud-based solutions that support collaboration, productivity, and digital transformation across campus. This is a unique opportunity to influence enterprise IT strategy, working closely with stakeholders to align technology with institutional goals.

You will lead efforts to assess and improve infrastructure, resolve complex technical issues, and develop sustainable support processes and documentation. Summary of Responsibilities


  • Engineer: Lead the design, development, and implementation of Microsoft solutions to align with business requirements and industry best practices. Conduct comprehensive analysis of organizational needs, overseeing the evaluation and selection of Microsoft technologies-including but not limited to Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and Entra ID formerly Azure AD-to deliver cost-effective, secure, and scalable solutions. Develop strategic adoption and implementation plans, ensuring seamless deployment, configuration, and integration of Microsoft services. Provide expert guidance on tenant management, security and compliance policies, migration strategies, automation with Power Platform, and performance optimization. Direct research and design of best-fit architectures for Microsoft infrastructure, collaboration platforms, and security frameworks. Manage cost-effective solutions to maximize the value of Microsoft investments, providing detailed reports on licensing optimization, system performance, user adoption, and overall productivity.
  • Maintain / Update: Ensure the maintenance and support of Microsoft technical infrastructure, including tenant management, security policies, collaboration tools, and cloud-based services. Lead and guide the configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization of M components, ensuring compliance with quality and change control standards. Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans specifically for M environments, ensuring high availability and resilience of critical services such as Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and Entra ID. Conduct regular testing and updates of recovery procedures to guarantee rapid restoration of services in the event of a failure, minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Security: Collaborate closely with IT security to monitor and enhance the University's privacy and data protection within Microsoft environments. Leverage expertise in M security and compliance features, including Entra ID formerly Azure AD, Microsoft Defender, Conditional Access policies, and Data Loss Prevention DLP, to assist with root cause investigations and provide strategic recommendations for preventative measures, security policies, and protocols that safeguard institutional information systems. Proactively identify and address gaps in support processes, documentation, and security configurations, prioritizing improvements to enhance system integrity and user experience. Ensure efficient operation of Microsoft services in alignment with university security policies and best practices, maintaining compliance, access control, and risk mitigation across collaboration tools such as Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Teams.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Requires a bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 4 years of relevant experience OR any combination of education and experience totaling 8 years.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge
  • Possesses expert knowledge of Microsoft 365 cloud technologies, hybrid computing models, and emerging industry trends.
  • Demonstrates strong proficiency in M365 administration.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft 365 security, compliance, backups, and disaster recovery strategies, including Zero Trust architecture, Defender for M365, and Conditional Access policies.
  • Familiar with clustering, redundancy, and business continuity planning for M365 environments.
  • Proficient in Azure, AWS, and GCP cloud ecosystems, ensuring interoperability and migration strategies for Microsoft-based services.
  • Well-versed in database management, automation, and scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, and SQL, optimizing Microsoft 365 operations through automation and system efficiencies.
  • Possesses solid security fundamentals, including firewalls, encryption, and data protection to safeguard M365 environments
  • Strong understanding of networking such as TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, and load balancing
Skills
  • Experience with operating systems including Linux, Unix, Solaris, Ubuntu, and/or Windows.
  • Experience with computer programming languages including Python, PowerShell, Perl, and ASP.NET.
