Job Summary

This is an emergency essential position.

Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

Work is sometimes performed independently within procedural and safety guidelines and requirements.

Responsibilities include meeting with customers, planning and scheduling work, estimating man hours, obtaining job costs and time estimates, interfacing and coordinating with the Facilities Work Control Center, performing layout work, requisitioning of materials and supervising all relevant trade areas.

Use tools made available to track and monitor Energy and Utility usage to be shared with the Assistant Director of Energy Services and Utilities.

Monitor testing of boiler water systems and apply proper chemical treatment to maintain water within established parameters.

Review and establish staffing schedules for plant operators to ensure proper coverage for safe and efficient plant operations.

Determine maintenance /repairs needs, establish work requirements, and assign priorities for completion using a CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System). Assigns work to personnel and verifies proper completion.

Monitor supply levels and prepare requisitions to ensure proper levels of fuel, chemicals, and other equipment and materials to ensure continuous and efficient operations.

Provide technical guidance and supervision of plant operators in the performance of their assigned tasks. Monitor work of subordinate employees and inspect assigned work to assure timely and proper completion.

Review and evaluate employee work performance and provide input for employee evaluations. Will be responsible for the Heat Plant leave approval process.

Considerable independence is provided, and should be exercised, in planning and scheduling work and determining the appropriate methods and procedures to be followed.

Minimum Qualifications

At leaset 2 years of experience as a Utility Plant Operater 2 in the operation, repair and maintenance of a commercial or Industrial steam heat plant of similar or greater size and complexity as the plant at Kutztown University.

At least 4 years ofexperience performing semi-skilled work in the operation, repair and maintenance of a commercial or industrial steam heat plant of similar or greater size and complexity as the plant at Kutztown University.

An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Valid driver's License

Proficent computer skills with email, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel) and other common MS Office software products.

High School Diploma or GED

Experience in a supervisory capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate Degree or higher

Knowledge of effective principles and practices of employee supervision.

Two or more years supervising 3-5 employees.

An understanding of and ability to work with computerized maintenance systems (CMMS), preventive maintenance systems and electronic record keeping.

Experience responding to PA One Call notifications and marking underground utilities.
