Dispatcher II

Job Summary

Under the general supervision, a Dispatcher II receives calls for emergency and non-emergency services by telephone or radio. Proficiently determines the nature and seriousness of the situation, utilizing their one year of professional emergency dispatch experience. Obtains the necessary information needed to dispatch appropriate resources including, but not limited to, University Police, Campus Security, Fire and EMS and any other Public Safety entities.

The CSO is responsible for overseeing the University's Department of Public Safety, which includes the following operational divisions: University Police, Campus Security, Health Security, Emergency Management, Emergency Communications, and the central administrative Office of the CSO.

Responsibilities
1. Answer emergency calls from students, faculty, staff, and visitors, gathering essential information about incidents and their locations.
2. Utilize computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems to prioritize and dispatch university police, fire, or medical units as needed.
3. Maintain clear and accurate radio communication with emergency responders, providing updates and critical information.
4. Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers in emergencies, including CPR or first aid instructions.
5. Monitor surveillance and multiple campus security alarm systems
6. Coordinate closely with campus resources and external agencies to ensure effective response and resolution of emergencies.
7. Document detailed information about calls, actions taken, and outcomes accurately and comprehensively.
8. Handle escalated or complex emergency situations, making critical decisions and adjustments as needed
9. Serve as a subject matter expert in emergency dispatch procedures and protocols, providing guidance and support to Dispatcher II and Dispatcher I personnel.
10. Monitor and analyze dispatch performance metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing best practices.
11. Coordinate with senior departmental leadership, emergency responders, and external agencies to enhance collaboration and communication
12. Respond to and manage escalated or critical incidents, making strategic decisions to optimize emergency response efforts.

This position may require the successful completion of a criminal background check
and/or drug screen.

Minimum Qualifications
18 years old.
High School diploma, GED or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
Type 40 WPM.
Legal to work in the United States.
No disqualifying criminal history.
"Train the Trainer" certified to train new employees.
Must be current on all EMD, CPR, BCI, POST Certifications, ICS 100, 200, 700, 800.
Must have worked as a 911 Dispatcher or a Dispatcher I for at least 3 professional years.
Must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of Police, Medical and Security duties and performed other duties as assigned (i.e. Dispatch Schedules, maintaining schedules in outlook, etc.).

Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and inspire a team of dispatch personnel.
Expert-level knowledge of CAD systems, telecommunications equipment, and emergency dispatch protocols.
Detail-oriented with the ability to focus on the specifics of a task, ensuring accuracy, and maintaining thoroughness.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess complex situations and make informed decisions.
Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high-stress and fast-paced environments.
Flexibility in working hours and availability to respond to emergencies or critical incidents as needed.
