Job Overview

The purpose of this position is to provide much needed research and advocacy support across our three main program areas - worker privacy, carceral technology and immigrant surveillance. The duties of the position include:

  • Undertaking legal and policy research to support research and advocacy projects;
  • Drafting written analysis in the form of memos, white papers, reports;
  • Analyzing policy and bill text; drafting policy and bill text;
  • Engaging in oral advocacy with ally organizations, policy makers, and the media;
  • Supporting Law Center students and undergrad RAs in carrying out Center projects;
  • Drafting communications materials such as op-eds, blogs, and tweets.
  • Sharing the burden of basic administrative and office housekeeping tasks with the rest of staff.


Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

The position reports to the Director of Research and Advocacy. In practice, the fellow's day to day work will support existing projects being managed by more senior staff, and so the fellow will report to those more senior staff on the specific projects assigned to them by that staff person. No staff will report to the fellow, although the fellow will support the work of our interns, summer fellows and research assistance.

This position has been designated as Hybrid 4 Days. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications
  • J.D.
  • Equivalent of one year professional or academic experience related to one or more of the Center's core program areas;
  • Demonstrated interest in issues related to privacy, surveillance and civil rights, in particular the disparate impact on historically marginalized communities;
  • Commitment to intersectional research and advocacy;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
