Job Summary

The CTSI is looking to hire a program manager to lead the BRIDGE UP HBCU summer research program, in collaboration with the Department of Pathology. This program is supported by two NIH grants.
 
The mission of the Biomedical Research Innovation and Development to Grow Excellence in Science - Undergraduate Program for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (BRIDGE UP-HBCU) is to enlarge the translational research workforce by increasing access to research training for students who attend HBCUs. BRIDGE UP-HBCU will recruit students with an interest in translational research, immunology, and infectious diseases from partnership relationships with HBCUs, while expanding these relationships to additional HBCUs.
 
The BRIDGE UP HBCU program manager supports the activities of the Program in the planning, programming, design, and maintenance of summer and academic research and career development in partnership with Historically Black Colleges and Universities. 
 
This person will be expected to perform all essential functions outlined below under minimal supervision. This position reports to the program director and is part of the CTSI Grants Team.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  1. Hiring, onboarding, and orientation of scholars
  2. Organization and planning of advisory board meetings
  3. Administration, tracking, and evaluation of trainee and mentor outcomes in collaboration with the CITE team
  4. Preparing progress reports for the funding source and external stakeholders
  5. Collaborate with the campus stakeholders to facilitate cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships
  6. Organization of program activities (clinical shadowing, Moab retreat, poster session, summer symposium, etc)
  7. Develops departmental strategies consistent with the assigned department's continuous quality improvement program
  8. Ensures competency of staff through the development and/or presentation of educational programs and through ongoing staff performance evaluations.
  9. In collaboration with the program director, supports the financial management of the program, programmatic purchasing, and budgetary review
  10. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required. Master's degree in a related area may be preferred.

  • A master's degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
