Boston University seeks a strategic and collaborative Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications to support enrollment marketing efforts for its master's and professional programs, with a primary focus on leveraging the Slate CRM to optimize communications and engagement with prospective students. This role will play a key part in the university's adoption and implementation of Slate as a university wide graduate enrollment CRM. The Assistant Director will serve as a lead contributor in building, executing, and optimizing marketing communications through Slate, ensuring it is used effectively as a central tool for student engagement. This role focuses on developing and executing communication strategies that attract and engage prospective students, leveraging a deep understanding of enrollment marketing trends, digital tools, and CRM based best practices.
The Assistant Director will play a key role in content creation, planning, developing, and managing a variety of digital assets-including targeted emails, landing pages, website updates, and other enrollment focused communications-as a core component of the graduate enrollment marketing strategy. Working closely with BU's school and college-based enrollment and marketing teams, the individual will ensure consistency, creativity, and strategic alignment with the university's brand across all communications.
The ideal candidate will bring a mix of communication planning, content creation, CRM expertise (especially in Slate), and digital marketing know-how to enhance recruitment throughout the prospective student journey. Slate experience strongly preferred.
Essential Functions
Slate CRM Management (35%)

Serve as a primary Slate CRM communications lead for graduate enrollment efforts across BU's 250+ master's and professional programs.

Build, test, and deploy email campaigns, workflows, and event communications in Slate Deliver.

Monitor campaign performance and leverage Slate data to optimize communication strategies.

Collaborate with school and college-based teams to ensure effective setup and use of Slate for prospective student outreach.

Stay informed on Slate capabilities and translate platform updates into communication improvements.
Content Creation (30%)

Create engaging, audience-specific content for emails, landing pages, websites, and recruitment materials-with a focus on Slate-compatible formats and content.

Work with design teams to produce visuals that support strategic messaging.

Ensure alignment with BU's brand voice and messaging across platforms.
Recruitment Communication Planning (20%)

Develop and implement segmented strategies based on the student journey.

Use Slate insights to guide messaging and optimize audience engagement.

Collaborate with schools and colleges to tailor messaging to specific program needs.
Integration with Overall Graduate Enrollment Marketing Strategy (15%)

Align Slate-based campaigns with broader digital marketing and SEO strategies.

Ensure cohesive messaging across all channels, including Slate, websites, and paid media.

Provide feedback and recommendations to improve campaign integration and performance.

Other marketing and recruitment initiatives as assigned
Required Skills

Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.

3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or CRM management; experience with Slate CRM is strongly preferred.

Hands-on experience with Slate Deliver, campaign automation, and CRM-based audience segmentation.

Strong writing, editing, and content development skills.

Knowledge of strategic communication planning, segmentation, and digital engagement.

Strong project management and collaboration abilities.

Experience with SEO, email marketing, analytics tools, and campaign performance tracking.
