Position Announcement

Utah Valley University (UVU) is seeking a passionate and student-focused tenure-track faculty member to join our growing Respiratory Therapy Program. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of respiratory therapy education while engaging in meaningful teaching, scholarship, and service at one of the nation's largest public universities.

As a UVU Respiratory Therapy faculty member, you will:
  • Teach undergraduate courses such as Fundamentals of Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacology, Mechanical Ventilation, Cardio-Pulmonary A&P, Sleep Medicine, Neonatal/Pediatric Care, and extensive lab simulations and clinical experiences.
  • Instruct across multiple formats-face-to-face, hybrid, online, and live-stream-with a 12-credit teaching load per semester.
  • Engage in scholarship, applied research, and professional development.
  • Contribute to program growth, accreditation processes, and university service.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
  • Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
  • Engages in scholarly activities, including applied research, and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department.
  • Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution (by CoArc) with a bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy, AND a master's degree in a related/similar field appropriate to the discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience teaching in a healthcare-related field. Involvement in health professional organizations and/or organizations.
  • At least three years of related teaching, training, and/or industry experience.
  • Evidence of scholarly research.
Licenses or Certifications:
  • Documentation of a valid RRT credential.
  • Documentation of current Utah state license.


Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

  • Teaching experience or expertise in at least three of the following areas is desirable: Fundamentals of Respiratory Therapy, Plus, Extensive Lab Scenarios/simulations, Extended Roles Available for Respiratory Therapists, Management and Research, Pharmacology, basic and advanced Mechanical Ventilation, Elementary and Advanced Cardio-Pulmonary/Renal A&P, Plus, extensive lab scenarios/simulations, In-Hospital Clinical Experience (over 900 hours), Introduction into Respiratory Therapy, Cardio-Pulmonary Diagnostics, Sleep Medicine, Neonatal/Pediatric.
  • Knowledge of subject matter, trends, and course content pertinent to the Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Knowledge of online teaching environments, such as Canvas or other course management systems.
Skills
  • Interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Curriculum development skills.
  • Soft skills in maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Proficient in executing scholarly activities and contributing to service endeavors, with a teaching focus that complements the Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Specific interest in teaching introductory courses, potentially involving collaboration with Concurrent Enrollment instructors.
  • Teaching pedagogy in a variety of delivery formats
Abilities
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
