Training and Communications Coordinator

Job Summary


Provides training and related instructional opportunities to staff members within a college or department. Presents and/or conducts training seminars and workshops. Designs and manages training programs. Orients users in applicable operational systems and computer software. Prepares communication materials used to instruct personnel and disburses relevant information.



Responsibilities
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  1. Demonstrate and provide hands-on training to research and OCM staff on rodent handling for commonly utilized techniques, basic techniques for animal surgeries, and regulatory requirements
  2. Maintain OCM's rodent training colony, and maintain and re-stock supplies and materials needed for OCM trainings
  3. Work with departmental IT staff and OACC to develop online training systems and maintain training documentation, including as applicable for a GLP environment
  4. Serve as an OCM point of contact for our research community seeking additional training or resources
  5. Coordinate curricular design, development, and delivery for educational programs (e.g. AALAS certification prep courses)
  6. Conduct reviews of training program(s) to determine program effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and initiate appropriate changes
  7. Act as department liaison to program participants, community members, and/or external organizations


Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education, Communication, or a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Two years related experience; an in-depth knowledge of the specialty area as well as federal-state laws and regulations governing their procedures; and demonstrated organizational, communication and human relation skills required. Related experience includes: instructional design, teaching, instructional video/multi-media production, public speaking, compositional writing, and computer operation.

Preferences
  • Prior experience with research rodent models and aseptic surgery
  • Demonstrated mastery of rodent handling, restraint, and common biomethodology techniques
  • Excellent verbal fluency with biomedical and laboratory animal research terminology
  • Ability to interact effectively with adult learners and adjust training styles accordingly
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer processing
