Job Description:

The Biology Department at Massasoit Community College is looking for a full-time Biology Instructor to join its faculty. To fill this role, department members serve as leaders and innovators, as well as outstanding educators. Taking a data-driven approach, department members work collaboratively with others at the college to promote active learning and student responsibility. Members work to develop, implement, review, and support programs that increase student success while maintaining high expectations and standards. Members also work closely with faculty and educational leaders throughout Massachusetts to develop a shared vision of biology education. Biology Department members coordinate the Biology Transfer Program and assess its effectiveness.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Teach 15 credit hours per semester of a variety of Biology Department courses, including majors'-level introductory biology and non-majors' human genetics, including courses with mandatory face-to-face labs and assessments.
  • Prepare respective course syllabi, assessments, and labs that consider both course-specific student learning outcomes, as well as General Education competencies appropriate to the teaching modality of the course.
  • Develop new discipline-related courses, based on departmental or programmatic needs.
  • Recommend suitable instructional material, textbooks, and library acquisitions.
  • Participate in the assessment of course and program learning outcomes.
  • Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues, teach online as needed, and enhance classroom learning as appropriate.
  • Engage in professional development activities through participation in conferences, workshops, seminars, and professional associations to maintain excellence in the discipline and in the classroom.
  • Foster student success across the college's diverse student body, and address equity gaps, through innovative teaching and learning approaches and curriculum development.
  • Attend and contribute to program, department, division, all-college, and committee/council meetings.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and colleagues across the college and community to support an innovative and integrative curriculum and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, including holding a minimum of four (4) scheduled office hours per week, serving as an academic advisor to assigned students, and completing college service obligations.


Job Requirements:
  • Master of Science (MS / ScM) in genetics, molecular biology, or a related biology sub-discipline.
  • Two years of teaching experience at the college level.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in curricular planning and assessment.
  • Experience and understanding of High-Impact Practices, technologies, and inclusive pedagogy to enhance student learning.
  • Experience working successfully within a diverse academic community.

Preferred:
  • Ph.D. in genetics, molecular biology, or a related biology sub-discipline.
  • Experience in community college teaching, advising, and/or curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated experience with online instruction.
  • Evidence of scholarly work in genetics/molecular biology or a related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with learning management systems, Office365, and familiarity with the Google Suite.
  • Demonstrated experience working on committees and within teams.


Additional Information:
Position Status: Full-time, state funded, benefited tenure-track Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) bargaining unit Faculty position. Terms governed by MCCC/MTA Agreement.

Position Start Date: Beginning of the Spring 2026 semester.

Salary: $54,201 - $70,407 annually. Salary is commensurate with education, experience and based on the MCCC Classification Study.

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites as well as online courses.
