Assistant Director, Finance & Administration, Sargent College

Boston University Sargent College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences is one of the country's leading schools of health and rehabilitation sciences. Home to more than 1,200 undergraduate and 575 graduate students, Sargent College combines outstanding faculty and cutting-edge research to provide superb education and clinical experiences. The college has more than 35 on-campus research facilities, clinical centers, and labs. It offers top-ranked degree programs in occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech, language and hearing sciences, health science, human physiology, behavior and health, and nutrition.

The Assistant Director, Finance & Administration (AD-FA) is a key member of the Finance & Administration team reporting to the Director, Finance & Administration and providing support services and financial analysis to the college's academic departments, research centers, outpatient clinics, and entrepreneurial units as well as to college leadership. The AD-FA manages the college's accounting for a large portfolio of designated, gift, and spendable endowment accounts and works with multiple stakeholders, including deans, department chairs, program directors and PIs to ensure that funds are used in accordance with the terms for each account. The role actively collaborates with the Director, Finance & Administration to analyze data to accurately make financial projections for complex financial reporting. This position serves as the main contact for Sargent College faculty and staff managing day-to-day business operations involving work across all central F&A units in the University, including procurement, accounts payable, travel and cashier services. The AD-FA ensures proper procedures and compliance with all University financial policies and regulations are adhered to by all college units.

The Assistant Director communicates and collaborates regularly with research faculty and PIs to ensure the timely administration of all PhD stipends for the college. The role also makes meaningful contributions to the college's broad portfolio of human resource operations, in collaboration with the Director, F&A, and Associate Director for Human Resources.

Required Skills:
  • BA/BS required.
  • 5-8 years' experience required.
  • Strong financial and accounting with prior experience managing restricted fund and sponsored research fund types.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a service-oriented approach.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to work with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, administrators, and central administrative offices, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • A collaborative work approach with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations with discretion.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard accounting principles. Facility with data analysis. Comfort using quality data to help guide decision-making.
  • Demonstrated diplomacy and dependability in collaborating with students, faculty, staff and resources across the University with a service-oriented approach to work.
  • Excellent judgement to ensure compliance with established university F&A procedures and policies.
  • Ability to interpret federal guidance regarding immigration visa to support applications and extensions for academic and employment purposes.
  • Ability to work towards and meet multiple deadlines and to prioritize between competing tasks and projects. Ability to initiate, assess, follow through, monitor, and evaluate a complex set of activities and issues. Intermediate or advanced Excel skills required. Experience working in SAP and BU business systems preferred.
