Position Description Under the direction of the Disability & Access Services (DAS) Director, the Student Services Coordinator coordinates and determines appropriate accommodation and auxiliary aids and services for students with disabilities. The coordinator works directly with students, faculty, and staff to facilitate an interactive process and implement approved accommodations, maintaining compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the ADA Amendments Act (ADAA). This position also supports the departments assistive technology and universal design initiatives by helping assess, maintain, and promote accessible tools and resources used by students, faculty, and staff. The coordinator must maintain confidentiality, keep accurate and up-to-date records in accordance with FERPA and DAS policy, and collaborate closely with other team members on outreach, technology, and training efforts. Please note, this is an in-person position.
Essential Functions: 55%
- Case Management & Accommodation Coordination.
- Review disability documentation, determine eligibility, engage in the interactive process, and coordinate reasonable accommodation and auxiliary aids for an assigned caseload of students.
- Consult with the DAS Director and Associate Director on complex cases involving accommodation disputes, course adjustments, or emerging disability-related needs.
- Maintain detailed, confidential case records and correspondence in the DAS database.
- Assistive Technology Support.
- Determine and support assistive technology and universal design needs across campus in collaboration with Information Services & Technology (IS&T) and other departments.
- Provide guidance to students, faculty, and staff on the use of assistive technologies, captioning tools, accessible media, and related digital accessibility solutions.
- Stay current on assistive technology trends, testing platforms, and e-text tools to ensure alignment with university standards and evolving accessibility requirements.
- Troubleshoot minor technical issues related to accessibility databases, student accommodations systems, and the e-text lab.
- Participate in training and campus events such as orientation and graduation and Support efforts to promote awareness of accessibility best practices and universal design principles within the BU community.
Required Skills
B.A. /B.S. required, M.A. preferred. One to three years of related higher education experience (three to five years preferred). Also prefer candidates who have academic concentrations in education, psychology, counseling or special education. Experience working with students with disabilities is a strong preference as is interpreting psychometric test reports and other assessments.
