Job Description

This position manages and oversees research activities within Dr. Derek M. Griffith's Program for Research on Men's Health. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: Extend and lead the growth of the Program for Research on Men's Health (PRMH). This role assists with developing, planning, and supervising Program research projects and conducting analyses and disseminating findings in reports and peer-reviewed outlets. This role also provides professional and/or technical leadership in executing day-to-day project activities (i.e., sets priorities and meets deadlines given resource constraints, facilitates meetings, monitors progress against established timelines, etc.); identifies potential areas for improvement; and identifies gaps and evaluates solutions. Additionally, the position requires the ability to understand and apply health behavior theory to behavioral interventions and other research (i.e., draft curriculum, draft health behavior messaging and develop protocols). This position will also recruit, screens and enroll project participants and other organizations and monitor internal and external collaborators supporting projects. This position will also prepare and processes new IRB research proposals, amendments, continuing review of applications and adverse event reports according to institutional and departmental policies and procedures and federal regulations. Lastly, this role will also provide input on budget, resource allocations and other plans to support projects.

Job Responsibilities

1) Project Management
  • Develops project plans, goals and objectives under the direction of the project director and center leadership (i.e. milestones and timelines, resources planning)
  • Provides professional and/or technical leadership in the execution of day-to-day project activities (i.e. sets priorities and meets deadlines given resource constraints, facilitates meetings, monitors progress against established timelines, etc.); Identifies potential areas for improvement; identifies gaps and evaluates solutions
  • Understands and can apply health behavior theory to behavioral interventions and other research (i.e. draft curriculum, draft health behavior messaging and develop protocols)
  • Recruits, screens and enrolls project participants other organizations; monitors internal and external collaborators supporting projects
  • With assistance, prepares and processes new IRB research proposals, amendments, continuing review of applications and adverse event reports according to institutional and departmental policies, procedures and federal regulations
  • Provides input on budget, resource allocations and other plans to support projects


2) Data Collection, Management and Analysis
  • Collects quantitative data and manages datasets within research platforms (i.e. REDCap, etc.)
  • Analyzes, interprets and summarizes qualitative and quantitative project datasets and data reports
  • Develops reports of results, graphs, charts, tables, etc. of datasets and research findings
  • Conduct surveys, interviews or focus groups as needed


3) Research Communication, Dissemination and Training
  • Establishes and optimizes tools that facilitate project communication
  • Drafts sections of grant proposals and contributes to and coauthors peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts
  • Delivers presentations at local meetings and professional conferences
  • Assists in the development of news and information about the program and/or specific projects that can be disseminated to partners and key stakeholders
  • Stay abreast and communicate scientific trends discovered through literature reviews, attendance at meetings, conferences and seminars
  • With guidance, coordinates and/or trains project staff and students


4) Committed to continuing to co-learn and grow alongside colleagues in the PRMH
  • Reads professional books and journals to stay current on the literature relevant to the work of the center
  • Attends conferences, meetings and/or seminars
  • Participates in and maintains certifications required by the University of Pennsylvania, the department and funding sponsors


5) Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Social Work other relevant field from an accredited institution of higher education OR at least two years of a doctoral or professional degree program in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Experience with quantitative analysis software (SPSS, R, STATA, etc.) is required
  • Experience with qualitative analysis software (Nvivo, Atlas, etc.) is preferred
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, commitment and flexibility is required
  • High level of organization with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage diverse responsibilities is required
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to solve problems independently are required
  • Self-motivation and interest in completing tasks and thinking beyond standard approaches to provide high-quality work is required
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills is required
  • Ability to interact in an effective, positive and appropriate manner with diverse populations is required
  • Positively contributes to the PRMH team and uplifts other team members

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
