NYU, Tisch School of the Arts, Department of Undergraduate Drama solicits applications for an Assistant Arts Professor /Head of Stage Management Training for the Production & Design Studio commencing in the academic year 2022-23. Application deadline is November 5, 2021.

The Assistant Arts Professor of Stage Management/Head of Management Training is responsible for instructing, advising and mentoring BFA students in the Production and Design Studio. This full-time position teaches five courses per year. Courses include Introductory Stage Management, Stage Management I, II & III. As well as one class from among: Touring Stage Management, Calling, Corporate Event Management, etc. The Assistant Arts Professor will conduct weekly "check in" meetings with management students on current projects. They advise students on selecting internships, developing their portfolios, and discussing career goals. We are actively seeking applicants that have a commitment to equity-forward teaching practices and who recognize and embrace the values of inclusivity and diversity, both in the classroom and in the field.

The Assistant Arts Professor will mentor students as they work as assistants, stage managers, and production stage managers on departmental productions. They will assist the Studio Head in determining appropriate production assignments for each student. The Assistant Arts Professor will attend production meetings and occasional rehearsals (including tech and dress rehearsals) to guide student managers through the production process. They may also facilitate communication between the student manager, the director, Production Manager or other collaborators. Following each production, the Assistant Arts Professor will provide feedback to the students who have completed production assignments in the management area.

In addition, the Assistant Arts Professor will be active in the leadership of the studio and of the Department of Drama through service on committees and participation in faculty meetings. Candidates must have established management careers and are expected to stay active in their profession while teaching, bringing the knowledge and experience of current techniques and practices to the classroom.

The Production and Design Studio is a professional training program in the Drama Department of New York University\\\\\\'s Tisch School of the Arts. The studio trains undergraduate designers, managers and technicians who will graduate with a BFA in Theatre. The mission of Production and Design is to provide students with the skills, techniques and experiences necessary to pursue a career in the design and production areas of the performing arts. A faculty of 30 (11 full-time) share the opportunity to educate and participate in theater-making with a highly motivated and enthusiastic student body of approximately 60 students. We value the pairing of rigorous conceptual theater training with a solid foundation in technical skills and the liberal arts.
