Adams State University is a state-supported, regional comprehensive university located in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado and the city of Alamosa. Position Summary
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Sociology position to begin Fall Semester, 2024. The position is seeking applicants with an interest in teaching courses for our Criminology Emphasis in the Sociology Department. The primary courses will include Criminology, Criminal Justice, Juvenile Delinquency, and Women and Crime. Secondary courses include an ability to teach a broad array of Sociology courses when necessary.

Upon completion of a B.A. in Sociology, our students will leave our program with hands-on, marketable skills and experiences that prepares them for a variety of career paths and/or graduate school

Minimum Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Sociology is preferred, consideration will be given to advanced ABDs.
- A strong focus on teaching.
- Demonstrates knowledge of, sensitivity to, and ability to work effectively with, the educational needs of individuals and groups with a diverse range of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and abilities.
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity of Adams State University's student population, including students with different abilities (e.g. physical and or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded, inclusive practices within the classroom.
- Demonstrated commitment to honesty, efficacy, and collaboration.
Specific Job Duties (Essential Functions and Responsibilities)
- The teaching load will be four courses per semester (12 credit hours), teaching courses primarily related to the field of Criminology, with the possibility of teaching online courses as necessary.
- This position specifically exists to provide classroom or related instruction under the supervision of the Department Chair and is responsible for planning and providing student instruction in accordance with approved syllabi, curriculum guidelines, and required program standards.
- Attend all regularly scheduled department, division, and university meetings/trainings, or as required by contract or Chair.
- Active participation in university, departmental, and community service activities as well as continuation and development of new scholarly and research interests.
- Active support of student organizations or activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability or experience working with historically under-served and/or underrepresented populations, and first-generation college students.
- Ability or experience in the recruitment and/or retention of underrepresented students, including students of color.
- Commitment to professional development, scholarship, and service to the university and community.
- Demonstrated self-awareness of one's own cultural beliefs, perspectives, and privileges as a part of one's orientation towards teaching.
- Demonstrated decision-making that is informed by research, data, and theory and that leverages students' unique cultures, experiences, and background as strengths.
Salary and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $49,668 to 52,776. This range reflects a minimum for an entry level Assistant professor position to a maximum for an experienced Assistant Professor level position. About Alamosa, Colorado
Located in the beautiful San Luis Valley between the San Juan and Sangre de Cristo mountain ranges, Alamosa is situated within the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area.
