Primary Duties:
Under the general direction of the Production Manager, the Costume/Makeup Studio Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of costume/makeup production by collaborating with the entire production team, creating a costume plot for each assigned show, sketching/rendering designs and design presentations, selecting and acquiring materials to complete designs, fittings and alterations, training and working with paid and unpaid student assistant designers and class crews, and maintaining related materials, equipment and shop areas in safe working order. The Costume/Makeup Studio Coordinator is a member of The College of Humanities and Fine Arts production team, serving the programmatic needs of the department and The School of the Arts. Our team is committed to the primary goal of all programs and the training/education of students. Production values follow from this goal. The operation of the Costume/Makeup Studios are student centered training programs that provide opportunities for students in all phases of theatrical costume and makeup production. The goals include the effective integration of production and curriculum as well as effective collaboration between faculty and production staff to enhance the connection between the student experience and academic coursework.

Required Education:

The background and experience needed would normally be achieved through professional training or applicable college coursework and no less than four years of practical experience.

  • The person holding this position is considered a Limited Mandated Reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to operate hand and power tools, related to production specialty, recognize safety hazards and use safe working practices in all work activities. Will need to sit or stand for extended periods of time, bend, squat, stoop, and twist for fabrication and fitting of costumes. May need to climb ladders and walk/travel across campus on even and uneven surfaces. Good balance, agility, ability to distinguish color, and occasional lifting up to 35 lbs. is also required. May use vehicle to obtain materials/supplies.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Position involves frequent to constant interaction with students, faculty, and staff to perform student training and safety related guidance. Due to the nature of the work additional or irregular hours such as early morning, evening hours, and weekends require a flexible work schedule. Work is typically performed in the costume shop and may be dusty and loud, due to rehearsals or performances.
