Curriculum & Instruction Chair and Associate Professor

Primary Purpose of Position:
This is a faculty position that includes chair responsibilities. To teach and serve as Department Chairperson and provide faculty leadership within the department and assume administrative responsibilities that have been relegated to the department level. In consultation with faculty, the chairperson is expected to provide leadership for the recruitment and retention of talented students. Facilitate open, honest and effective communication within the department. Lead and manage periodic program reviews based on evaluative information. Provide input to Dean regarding the reappointment, promotion and tenure of faculty. Implement the annual faculty evaluation process, in consultation with Dean. Coordinate faculty search committees. Identify, recommend and evaluate qualified adjunct and visiting faculty. Monitor course enrollments and offerings to ensure efficiencies. Recommend equitable faculty workload assignments in accordance with School or Education policy. Attend and participate in Dean's Administrative Council meetings. Effectively represent the views of department faculty in the School of Education and university meetings. Coordinate and submit information requested by the Dean's office (i.e. class schedules, textbook orders, advising schedules, etc.). Work with faculty to ensure a "student friendly: and colleague friendly climate within the department. Serve as the first contact for resolving routine student and faculty issues and concerns. Forward unresolved issues and problems lo the appropriate Associate Dean, the Dean's Administrative Council, or in sensitive circumstances, directly to the Dean.


Minimum Education/Experience:
A doctoral degree from an accredited institution in the field of Middle Grade Education (Language Arts/Reading) or a related field, with teaching experience in an academic area consistent with the mission of the School of Education. Administrative experience at a college or university; curriculum development, implementation and evaluation; development of new educational programs in higher education; research track record, including publications, proposal and grant development and administration; strong communication skills, commitment to interdisciplinary education; and it is expected the applicant will qualify for tenure as a full professor.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The qualified candidate will have a demonstrated record of teaching in Middle Grades ( Language Arts and Reading) and providing vision and support to the implementation and assessment of the School of Education strategic plan. Lead academic initiatives that enhance student engagement/success and innovative program development. Ensure the quality and integrity or academic programs through assessment and cooperation with departments and all accrediting bodies. Assist the School of Education in the achievement of enrollment and commencement goals, financial support from a variety of governmental,
corporate and private funding sources. Participate in teaching, research and service that will advance the mission of the institution. Remain abreast of current literature, research, issues and innovations in higher education, especially administration and educational sciences. Demonstrate experience in managing an academic unit, including fiscal management, human resources and programmatic accreditation. Provide support to department students, faculty and administrators. with multiple stakeholders. Carry out other assignments and duties as assigned by the Dean and as appropriate to the position of Department Chair.
