Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month, exempt Dean of Workforce, Professional and Technical Education (WPTE) & Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) position in the Office of Instruction. This position is an administrative position reporting to the Vice President of Instruction and provides collaborative leadership, management, planning, and advocacy for faculty and programs within the unit.



The WPTE & STEM unit includes Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, Mechatronics, Welding, Computer Technology, Network Technology, Digital Media Arts, Cuisine Management, Professional Baking and Pastry Arts, Surveying, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering and Math. This position also oversees Clark College Educational programs at the Larch Correctional Facility. The assignment of specific divisions and instructional departments are subject to change.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership:

  • Serve as advocate for and represent the instructional unit.

  • Work collaboratively with division chairs, department heads, other instructional unit deans, faculty, and staff. Establish and maintain an effective communication process within and among units.

  • Provide leadership in development of effective teaching and learning strategies and outcome assessment tools. Represent the unit in articulation and partnership activities with high schools, community colleges, four-year institutions, and business and industry partners.

  • Conduct program review processes.

  • Actively initiate and support activities that promote diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice.

  • Lead efforts to pursue grant opportunities for the unit.



  • Facilitate faculty and staff development.


Management:

  • Oversee class scheduling and catalog preparation within the unit.

  • Oversee facility and equipment allocation.

  • Develop and manage unit budget allocations in support of instruction and oversee all auxiliary and resale accounts.

  • Assume primary responsibility for recruitment, screening, orientation, and professional development of full and part-time faculty.

  • Supervise teaching faculty, and classified staff within unit.

  • Serve as the unit appeal representative for student complaints.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with colleges and universities who provide the resources for partnerships, collaboration and opportunities for increasing faculty diversity.

  • Oversee tenure review process for probationary faculty and evaluation processes for full- and part-time faculty.



  • Oversee faculty vocational certification process.


Planning:

  • Establish and maintain identified FTE targets, effectively allocating personnel and budget resources.

  • Participate in Advisory Committee meetings and the development of work plans for programs within the unit.

  • Oversee and foster collaborative planning and goal setting for programs and departments within the unit.

  • Interact and interface with Workforce Southwest Washington, and other applicable state, local, and regional agencies.

  • Facilitate articulation agreements for programs in the unit.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.






Common Duties Established by the College:

  • Serve as chair or member of designated College committees, councils, and teams.

  • Provide leadership in accordance with the Mission and Vision established by the College, furthering Core Themes and College Objectives.

  • Ensure areas of responsibility operate effectively within the policies and procedures of the College and applicable governing agencies.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for operating unit(s).

  • Train, supervise, and evaluate employees in accordance with negotiated agreements, applicable state and federal laws, and College policies and procedures.

  • Exercise effective stewardship over college resources.

  • Prepare reports and analytical materials to illustrate objectives, activities, and accomplishments of areas of responsibility.

  • Create a safe, bias-free working environment, which engenders respect for differences.

  • Work to achieve the core theme of fostering a diverse college community as established by the College.

  • Engage in and promote shared governance.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, preferably in an academic area related to assignment.

  • Three (3) years of full-time leadership experience in academic administration or instruction reasonably related to the administrative assignment.

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students and employees.

  • Culturally responsive, inclusive, and anti-racist practice in instruction.

  • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.



  • Vaccination requirement: Per Washington State Proclamation 22-13.1: college employees must be fully vaccinated. STARTING SALARY: $105,266/annually (commensurate with qualifications and experience).
