California State University, Dominguez Hills, was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University system. CSU Dominguez Hills is an urban, comprehensive public university that serves a culturally rich, diverse student body of over 12,500 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Located on a 346-acre site in the South Bay portion of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, CSU Dominguez Hills has a highly pluralistic student body, which includes a significant number of non-traditional, working adult students as well as approximately 2,000 students enrolled in distance learning programs statewide. Conditions of Employment:
The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
Employment is contingent upon candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift up in excess of 50 lbs.
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.
Department: Facilities Services
Facilities Services is responsible for upkeep, repair and maintenance of buildings and grounds at the University, totaling in excess of 1,250,000 gross square feet of building space and 346 acres of grounds. The mission of the department is to provide an aesthetically appealing, well-maintained, safe and comfortable physical environment conducive to learning and productivity.
Major Job Duties:
Under general supervision of the Executive Assistant to the Provost the Administrative Support Coordinator provides day-to-day administrative support for the Provost's Office. The Administrative Support Coordinator receives telephone calls, greets visitors and makes appropriate referrals for action to the appropriate individual and/or area. The Administrative Support Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of various office functions and special events.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of the common methods, practices and materials used in maintenance and repair work of buildings and building facilities and general knowledge of the various tools used in building maintenance and repair work and their proper use and care.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, shop drawings and layouts; working knowledge of local, state, and federal code regulations, requirements and industry standards, knowledge and experience in maintenance, electrical repair, swimming pool maintenance and electric golf-cart battery maintenance and repair of plumbing systems, HVAC systems or a combination thereof; extensive knowledge of safety rules, building codes, Cal OSHA requirements, methods practices and procedures in the construction trades; and knowledge and experience in working with power tools and equipment.
Ability to do a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks in HVAC, plumbing, electrical and carpentry trades, follow simple oral and written directions, mechanical aptitude, read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the positions and make simple arithmetic computations where required. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. Understands and is able to work at an acceptable level of industry standards.
Certification: Valid Drivers License
Experience and Education:
Required Education: None
High School graduation or equivalent, or journey level maintenance worker training is highly desirable.
Required Experience: Three years of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair, or comparable experience as a trades assistant or laborer with demonstrated proficiency in the required duties
Five years of experience as a journeyman level building maintenance worker and experience working in a university or large institutional setting is preferred.
The salary range for this classification is: $4,677 - $5,878 monthly.
