California State University Dominguez Hills was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University System. CSU Dominguez Hills is an urban, comprehensive public university that serves a culturally rich, diverse student body of approximately 14,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Located on a 346-acre site in the South Bay portion of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, CSU Dominguez Hills has a highly pluralistic student body, which includes a significant number of non-traditional, working adult students as well as approximately 2,000 students enrolled in distance learning programs statewide. The University, with its five Academic Colleges, has more than 300 full- time faculty members and is situated in an area characterized by an extraordinary heterogeneity of people, and an extensive array of high technology industries and professional services.

Conditions of Employment:
The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Position Information:
This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position. Department: College of Extended & International Education

The College of Extended and International Education at California State University, Dominguez Hills provides degree, certificate, and credential programs and individual credit and noncredit courses to students in Southern California and worldwide in class and via distance learning. Our mission is to expand the resources of the University to better serve the communities of which we are a part.

Major Job Duties:
Under general direction of Associate Dean and SIO, the incumbent provides complex student services to International students including academic and immigration advisement with a special emphasis on the impact of a wide variety of federal regulations affecting International students. Collaborate with CEIE, academic units and other support services to enhance student's full integration into CSUDH. Provides a high level of sensitivity to diverse cultural needs of students when providing advisement and services. Thorough knowledge of complex and changing regulations is required to utilize the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and to serve as the university's Designated School Official (DSO). Develops and implements orientations programs to support of international students at CSUDH. Must exercise a high degree of independent judgment in carrying out daily tasks with high accuracy on complex federal and state compliance matters. Coordinates with International Student Services office policies that support students maintaining their immigration status. Coordinates academic, social and cultural programs for students. Coordinates with International Outreach Coordinator the recruitment of International students through fairs, college visits and other outreach assignments, including social media. Works with outside agencies, including Social Security Administration, ICE, foreign consulates, and US Embassy.

Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have the ability to meet the Department of Homeland Securitys requirements for Designated School Official (DSO); Must have thorough knowledge of U.S. Department of Homeland Security policies and procedures as they apply to International student visas; Ability to communicate with foreign embassies, agencies and departments to facilitate International student documentation processes; Knowledge of SEVIS data records system for International students and knowledge of the Federal Code of Regulations that relate to F-1 students and visas. Incumbent should possess advanced knowledge of basic counseling and educational principles, an understanding of human development, individual and group dynamics, educational referral and advisement strategies and college student development theory. Knowledge and experience as a DSO. Knowledge and familiarity with NAFSA: Association of International Educators. Knowledge of F-1 regulations for Internationals students. Understanding of International student needs and the programs and services to support their academic and personal success.

Demonstrated ability to provide support for office program development, policies and procedures and provision of services to International students. Create, plan, organize, implement and evaluate programs for international students. Able to advise students on complex immigration issues as well as provide academic, social and cultural support to enhance student success. Demonstrated ability to work with community entities and departments that regulate and process immigration documents. Ability to resolve complex immigration problems and to work on multiple complex tasks simultaneously. Ability to collaborate with various University departments to advocate for and resolve student concerns. Able to listen to and advise students in groups or individual settings. Able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity. Evidence of ability to work well with students, faculty and a campus community in a diverse environment. Use computers and communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Supervise, train and motivate graduate and student staff. Interpret and apply various sets of rules, guidelines, regulations and procedures. Ability to be innovative and self- directed.

Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of SEVIS, excellent writing skills, and PeopleSoft

Certification: Valid Drivers License

Experience and Education:
Required Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemental by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

Required Experience:
Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job-related field may be substituted for three years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this classification is: $4,691 - $6,683 monthly.
