SCAD seeks a shop monitor to help support the SCAD shop manager in operating School of Design shop facilities.

In this position, you will oversee the distribution and collection of tools, enforce safe work practices, maintain a clean work environment, conduct sales transactions of materials, complete task lists, and assist the manager with various shop projects. Shop monitors also assist students with the safe and correct operation of shop equipment and ensure students follow proper policies and procedures.

The ideal candidate must have knowledge of basic woodworking tools, processes, and techniques, and should be familiar with industrial shop equipment, hand tools, fabrication techniques, and safety. Must stay active in times of low student activity via shop improvement projects, ability to work independently, and a customer-service oriented demeanor. Must attend all college sponsored safety and security training and be prepared to render first aid as needed for minor incidents. Work flexible schedule including nights and weekends in times of need.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic woodworking tools, processes and techniques is required.

Familiar with industrial shop equipment, hand tools, fabrication techniques and safety.

Customer service-oriented

Cleanliness, attention to detail, and organization skills required.

Basic knowledge of Excel and Adobe programs is preferred.
