Job Summary:
The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a full-time (9-month) Clinical Assistant faculty position to begin August 16, 2024.

Position responsibilities include:
  • Teach graduate courses consistent with expertise and department instructional needs
  • Advise DPT students
  • Provide service to the university, community, and PT profession



Eastern Washington University is a regional, comprehensive university with its main campus in Cheney, WA. The DPT Program is located at EWU Spokane, a primarily health sciences campus, with state-of-the-art space and facilities. The DPT Program is 2 years 9 months in length, has 9 full-time faculty positions, and admits 38 students each fall. Opportunities for summer teaching may be available.

Required Qualifications:
  • Academic doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, EdD) or DPT with clinical specialization
  • 3 years clinical practice experience as a PT
  • State of Washington PT license eligible
  • Proficient in use of classroom technology
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.


Preferred Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
  • Licensed in Washington state
  • Academic doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, EdD)
  • Expertise in Sports Physical Therapy

Job Duties:

Responsibility / Duty: Position responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service to the university/community/profession. The faculty member will teach courses with musculoskeletal/orthopedics content, clinical research, and assist in other program coursework as assigned. The Clinical Assistant will also assist in implementing the integrated clinical experience aspect of the curriculum.

A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidates appointment and will consist of a combination of teaching, service and/or release time to perform duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department.
Additionally, all faculty are expected to:
  • Engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
  • Meet all scheduled classes;
  • Plan, organize and inform students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales;
  • Schedule and attend office hours;
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines;
  • Advise students who are declared majors on department, college and University requirements and career opportunities.
  • Supervise students in laboratory and simulated learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design high-quality focused experiential learning activities.
  • Facilitate relevancy between department curriculum and industry needs.

Conditions of Employment:
  • This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.



  • All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.


Salary Information: The expected salary upon hire is $76,008.
