This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.
Purpose of Position
Plans, directs, and coordinates strategic activities of the Research Advancement Office of Research and Innovation to grow external funded research in all areas related to Health and Health Disparities, with a special focus on federal funding opportunities in collaboration with federal agencies.
Essential Functions
Lead in the formulation, implementation, administration, and evaluation of activities in the Research Advancement Office in Research & Innovation (R&I) to advance research scholarship, in Health and Health Disparities. The candidate will collaborate with other top management personnel in formulating and establishing policies, operating procedures, and develop goals that support University priorities.
Continuously review and disseminate research priorities and support opportunities from the National Institutes of Health, other agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), and relevant subdivisions of other federal agencies. Develop relationships with stakeholders in key institutes and agencies, with a focus on providing timely notification of new opportunities for federal support in health research.
Effectively engage with faculty researches and administrators across all relevant colleges and departments, integrating diverse points of view, and determining and advocating for best practices to facilitate faculty research development and support. Assist in the identification of research teams capable of addressing anticipated opportunities.
Develop and review analytics to determine the impact of activities and operations on productivity and return-on-investment. Regularly report results to Research Administration Leadership and other administrative personnel, identifying success and proposing ways to address perceived deficiencies or challenges.
Confer with R&I Leadership and other administrative personnel to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives resulting from current status and conditions.
Assist in the development of optimal training and incentive opportunities to support grant writing and management for researchers with various levels of experience.
Assist in the development of major team-research or other institutional proposals.
Serve as a member or leader of University R&I management committees as requested.
Review technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in health research. Continuous professional self-development of knowledge and skills in grant administration of proposal development.
Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and ability to lean and use institutional software systems.
Comply with all State and University policies.
Other duties may be assigned.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with UTEP and UT System's objectives, policies, and applicable laws. Advises on priorities and formulation of unit fiscal budgets!
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Doctorate or other terminal degree in a field related to health research
and
Experience: Tenured, Full Professor with a strong record of externally funded grants from NIH or equivalent and the demonstrated ability to work with faculty members and mentor early career faculty members.
Some traveling required.
The job responsibilities associated with this position require a full-time presence on the UTEP campus. The position is 100% administrative position, with no allocation of time to teaching or individual research projects.
