Postdoctoral Fritz Research Fellow, Massive Data Institute

Postdoctoral Fritz Research Fellow, Massive Data Institute
Georgetown University: Main Campus: Tech & Society Initiative
Location: Washington, DC
Open Date: Jan 14, 2025
Deadline: May 30, 2025 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time
Description
The Georgetown Initiative on Technology and Society is seeking a Postdoctoral Fritz Research Fellow to work with the Massive Data Institute (MDI) and the Department of Computer Science on research interests at the intersection of computer and network security, anonymous communication, applied cryptography, and data privacy to help build up --and be a part of-- the research efforts at MDI and Computer Science. Applicants can hold a Ph.D in computer science or a relevant field. The postdoctoral researcher will work with a team to conduct research that involves the exploration of secure multiparty computation and differential privacy to build a scalable, secure, privacy-preserving system for statistics collection and aggregation.
One of the main focus areas for our secure statistics collection is anonymity and censorship-resistant networks. The researcher will also help enhance our existing implementation to help transition research results into practice. Fellows are expected to engage in their own advanced independent and/or directed research with colleagues and engage in projects with the faculty that are part of the Massive Data Institute and the Department of Computer Science.
The Fellow will also look for opportunities to collaborate with faculty and practitioners in other parts of Georgetown and is expected to give at least one seminar presentation based on his/her work while a fellow. In addition, along with their mentored research, this fellow will join a cohort of Fritz Family Fellows ranging from undergraduate students through postdoctoral fellows. Each fellow will be working on a different project co-designed and mentored by faculty from at least two different parts of the campus.
Ultimately, the Fritz Family Fellowship aims to cultivate the next generation of leaders with expertise in the social impacts of technology, and build a network of public interest technologists who learn from and support each other's work. Fellowships are temporary advanced scholarly appointments for one calendar year (beginning at the time of employment), with the possibility of renewal. Fellows will receive a stipend (around $80,000) plus health insurance coverage, and will be provided working space.
