Job Summary
The Assistant Dean is responsible for the overall success of clinical education and the day-to-day operations of the Office of Clinical Education and Partnerships (OCEP). This role includes maintaining the vision and coherence of clinical practices across certification programs, managing the OCEP budget, and overseeing payments and purchase orders. Additionally, the Assistant Dean designs and leads professional learning for faculty and mentor teachers, addresses daily issues and concerns, prepares reports for accrediting bodies, builds partnerships, oversees student placements, and ensures compliance with state and national policies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in education (Ph.D. or Ed.D.)
- Experience in PK-12 educational settings
- Experience and expertise in clinical education, supervision, and the mentoring/coaching of teacher candidates
- Proven experience in leadership and management roles, particularly in clinical education, including managing budgets, authorizing requisitions, ensuring financial health, and supervising administrative staff, student workers, and graduate students
- Experience in building and maintaining partnerships with schools and other external entities
- Ability to prepare reports for accrediting bodies and the Pennsylvania Department of Education, with knowledge of state and national policies related to clinical education
- Strong interpersonal skills to navigate complex relational dynamics internally and externally, and the ability to address daily issues and concerns, some of which may have legal implications
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of and/or experience with teacher certification and licensure in Pennsylvania
- Knowledge and/or established relationships with the school districts surrounding Kutztown University
- Experience in designing and facilitating meetings and professional learning for faculty, mentor teachers, and university supervisors and other stakeholders
- Experience in developing and maintaining instruments for gathering input and stakeholder feedback, along with skills in supporting data collection and analysis to drive innovation and continuous improvement
- Involvement and/or presentations in state and national organizations related to clinical education in teacher education
- Experience in coordinating special projects and grant funding with external partners and agencies
- Experience in utilizing technology to support teaching and learning, data management, and collaboration for clinical education and partnerships as well as creating innovative solutions to enhance clinical education
