Position Summary
JOB SUMMARY:

Lasell University seeks an experienced and collaborative Philanthropy Engagement Officer/Director of Planned Giving (PEO/DPG) to join our University Advancement team during an exciting period of growth. The ideal candidate will have planned giving experience and have demonstrated success assisting donors in realizing their passions and interests through their philanthropic giving, preferably within higher education. The PEO/DPG is an important member of the Advancement team and reports to the Assistant Vice President of University Advancement.

With the university in the early stages of its comprehensive "Forever Forward" campaign, this role is pivotal in driving major and planned giving efforts to support our ambitious goals. Under the leadership of our 10th president, Eric M. Turner, Lasell is poised for significant advancements in its mission to provide exceptional education and opportunities for all. Lasell practices a flexible work model, and this position may be eligible to work partially remotely. The PEO/DPG will be required to travel extensively.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the department's planned giving efforts, including cultivating and stewarding relationships with planned giving prospects, and supporting other gift officers in securing planned gifts.
  • Manage a portfolio of major and planned gift prospects, performing regular outreach to secure planned and major gift contributions at the $25,000 level and above, ensuring alignment with the university's fundraising targets.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the planned giving program, preparing regular reports on progress, donor engagement, and financial outcomes.
  • Develop and oversee strategies for recognizing planned giving donors, including for the Heritage Society, Lasell's dedicated planned giving society.
  • Work closely with financial planners, attorneys, and other advisors to facilitate planned giving arrangements, including bequests, trusts, and other deferred gifts.
  • In collaboration with Advancement Communications, develop marketing campaigns to raise awareness and interest in planned giving opportunities.
  • Travel to meet with individuals, including traveling with and staffing the President and other employees on visits and events.
  • Maintain regular communication with individuals and provide complete and timely records of contacts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE JOB:

Minimum Education level: Applicants with a bachelor's degree also need a minimum of three years of frontline fundraising or planned giving experience. Applicants who do not have a bachelor's degree who have at least ten year of major gift or planned giving experience, preferably in higher education, may still apply.

Other Requirements of the Job:
  • Experience with planned giving vehicles highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill with soliciting and closing major and planned gifts of $25,000 and higher.
  • Excellent oral, written skills and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a multitude of tasks and meet required deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse constituents to honor a donor's philanthropic goals while advancing the institution's mission, goals, and values.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, proficiency with email, internet, and CRM systems.
  • Must maintain the highest ethical standards for confidentiality.
  • This position requires extensive travel locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Will require some evening and weekend work.
